Shudder has released its schedule for August, including two new original films and an original series. Only eight titles are being added to their “Shudder Resurrected” library, but that may be because they are holding on to some titles for September, which is generally when their Halloween season begins.

Only four episodes remain for season six of The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs, three of which will air in August. Episodes air every other Friday, so the final three will premiere on August 2, August 16, and August 30, respectively. Each should be available on-demand the following Sunday.

A Nightmare on Elm Street – The original 1984 film is coming to Shudder in all its creepy glory. Revisit the story of Nancy and her friends, whose dreams have been invaded by a hideously scarred man named Freddy Krueger. It’s a must-see classic at this point.

Wes Craven’s New Nightmare – Ten years after the OG Nightmare on Elm Street was released, this clever meta sequel hit theaters. It was unique in that Heather Langenkamp, Robert Englund, and John Saxon played themselves this time around, rather than their characters. Heck, even Wes Craven makes an appearance, playing himself.

In the Mouth of Madness – In this dark, trippy tribute to H. P. Lovecraft, Sam Neill plays John Trent, a former insurance investigator who is now in a psychiatric hospital. He tells Dr. Wrenn (David Warner) that he was hired to investigate the disappearance of horror writer Sutter Cane. His unbelievable story seems too crazy to be true, but is it?

Dawn of the Dead (2004) – As a huge fan of the original Dawn of the Dead, I didn’t expect to love Zack Snyder's remake nearly as much as I did. It includes several Easter eggs harkening back to the 1978 version, such as the department store at the mall being named Gaylen Ross after the actress who played Fran.

The Dead Mother – Leire’s mother is killed by a burglar named Ismael, who also leaves Leire disabled after shooting her in the head. Years later, Ismael sees Leire and becomes convinced that she recognizes him. He abducts her and holds her for ransom, but the two begin to develop a bond, which causes him to rethink his plan to kill her.

Faces of Death - Ah, the horror projects of the late 1970s! Faces of Death achieved notoriety thanks to using footage featuring real deaths. While critics hated it, the general public ate it up, and multiple sequels were released in later years.

Divinity – Stephen Dorff (The Gate), Scott Bakula (Lord of Illusions, Quantum Leap), and Bella Thorne (The Babysitter) appear in this sci-fi film, in which “two mysterious brothers abduct a mogul during his quest for immortality. Meanwhile, a seductive woman helps them launch a journey of self-discovery."

August 5

Luz – In this 2018 German film, a cab driver is taken to the police station after a car crash. Unfortunately, a demon follows her in…and becomes obsessed with her.

August 16

Dancing Village: The Curse Begins (Shudder Exclusive) – A shaman orders a woman to return a mystical bracelet to a remote location known as the “Dancing Village.” Mila's cousin and friends accompany her on the trip and upon arrival, they discover that the village guardian has passed away and the new guardian has vanished.

August 19

The Deeper You Dig – When a man accidentally hits a young woman with his car after a night of heavy drinking, he brings her back to his recently acquired rundown home where things escalate quickly.

Hell Hole (Shudder Original) – This film comes from the Adams Family (Hellbender, The Deeper You Dig). A fracking crew discovers a French soldier from a Napoleonic campaign who is somehow still alive and has become host to a parasitic creature.

Horror’s Greatest (Shudder Original Series) – It's surprising that Shudder didn't save this for Halloween season, but it sounds really good. Shudder's horror documentary game is always strong!

AMC Networks describes this compelling new series as “a deep dive into everything we love about horror," featuring a veritable who's who of horror royalty, including actors, directors, writers, composers, and more. Horror's Greatest will examine why we love the genre and its many tropes, films considered the best of the genre, what horror movies from other countries look like, plus much more.
