Killer cakes: Watch the bloody trailer for Matthew Lillard-hosted Halloween bake-off
By Mads Lennon
Edible maggots, exploding cakes, and lots more plague the official trailer for the Prime Video series Killer Cakes, an upcoming two-part Halloween special hosted by Scream and Five Nights at Freddy's star Matthew Lillard set to air on Amazon Prime Video this October.
As you can see in the trailer, the competition special will challenge contestants to create sinister cakes that will be judged on their taste just as much as the special effects and gore. If you're a fan of Food Network shows like Halloween Baking Championship and Halloween Wars, then Killer Cakes should be at the top of your watchlist!
In addition to Lillard, Killer Cakes will feature two judges, Danielle Harris, who horror fans know from the Halloween and Hatchet franchises, and the cookbook author/experimental food artist Nikki Alcarez (Peculiar Baking). The series is another production from Blumhouse Television and Amazon MGM Studios.
Amazon has revealed the list of baking contestants:
- Amanda Yother: Rathdrum, ID
- Dillon Barlow: Houston, TX
- Dziedra "Z" Brusberg: Marysville, WA
- Deadra "Dee" Compean: Beaumont, TX
- Eszter Summerlin: Gulf Breeze, FL
- Jesse Lesser: Dallas, TX
- Mark Lie: Chicago, IL
- Shanelle Long: Pensacola, FL
The Killer Cakes bakers will compete for the grand prize of $20,000. And these are no ordinary cakes, either, as mentioned above, the cakes each team is responsible for baking up must be something radical and bloody. They'll receive assistance from two of Hollywood's notable special effects artists, Tom Woodruff (Smile, Aliens) and Ashley Levy (Insidious: The Red Door, Happy Death Day).
Based on the trailer, it looks like they'll be doing all sorts of wild stuff to their cakes, including blowing them up, making slime and blood ooze out of them, and all kinds of other nightmare material. Let's just hope they still taste good!
Both episodes of Killer Cakes will drop on Prime Video on October 8.
