A secluded family in the woods, a dark ancestral secret, and Kit Harington—sounds like the makings of a great horror film!

Game of Thrones star Kit Harington might have faced off against all sorts of enemies in the HBO drama, but in his new movie The Beast Within, he's dealing with a much more personal foe. Releasing in theaters on July 26, Harington plays a family man who lives with his family in a secluded compound deep in the English wilds to protect his secret.

When his 10-year-old daughter Willow starts to question why her family lives such a reclusive life in the forest, she starts digging into their history and uncovers a dark ancestral secret. Harington stars alongside Ashleigh Cummings (Citadel), James Cosmo (Scrooge: A Christmas Carol), and Caoilinn Springall (Stopmotion). Springall was excellent in Stopmotion and appears to have a bright career ahead of her.

The trailer is rather spoiler-y, but if you would like to watch it check it out right here:

As you might have guessed from the film's title and description, Harington's character appears to be a werewolf, and one night Willow witnesses his horrifying transformation. But we never see him in his complete werewolf form in the trailer, so the film may pull a bait-and-switch and make his transformation about something else entirely.

The Beast Within comes from director Alexander J. Farrell who co-wrote the script with Greer Taylor Ellison.

Besides Game of Thrones, Harington is also known for projects like Testament of Youth, Eternals, Gunpowder, and Pompeii. He's set to star in the upcoming third season of the HBO series Industry, premiering August 11, and the romance film Eternal Return.

There haven't been many notable werewolf movies in the last few years, so it's nice to see more on the horizon between (potentially) The Beast Within and the upcoming Frank Grillo movie Werewolves. Leigh Whannell is also working on his take on The Wolf Man, expected next year.
