Melissa Barrera's next film Your Monster hits theaters this October
Melissa Barrera has already established herself as a scream queen with her roles in the movies Scream and Scream VI. We can't wait to see her take on a new role in the upcoming romantic comedy horror Your Monster, which is set to be released in theaters on Oct. 25, 2024, by Vertical Entertainment
Your Monster is an indie horror film written and directed by Caroline Lindy. It's based on Lindy's 2019 short film of the same name and centers around a young, soft-spoken actress named Laura Franco, who, after a cancer diagnosis and bad breakup, discovers a weirdly charming monster living in her closet.
Barrera stars in the leading role of Laura Franco. Besides Scream and Scream VI, you might also recognize Barrera from her roles in the movies In the Heights and Abigail. She also starred as Lyn Hernandez in the Starz drama series Vida.
Joining her in the cast of Your Monster are Tommy Dewey (The Mindy Project, Pivoting), Edmund Donovan (Gossip Girl, Tell Me Lies), Meghann Fahy (The Bold Type, The White Lotus), and Kayla Foster (The Deuce, Call Jane). Dewey plays the monster living in Laura's closet. In addition, Donovan portrays Jacob, Fahy as Jackie Dennon, and Foster as Mazie.
On July 11, Barrera shared the movie's official poster on her Instagram page, and with the caption, she revealed the theatrical release date. You can check out the poster below!
While not exactly a remake of the 2017 live-action film Beauty and the Beast, Your Monster looks to have taken inspiration from it. The horror rom-com had its world premiere at the 2024 Sundance Film Festival in January 2024 before Vertical Entertainment swooped in and acquired North American distribution rights to the film in March. Now, the movie is set for an October release in theaters, just in time for spooky season.
An official trailer should be released closer to the release date. Of course, you can count on us to share it once it drops.
