Michael Rainey Jr. and Chloe Bailey to headline new horror movie Goons
Power Book II: Ghost star Michael Rainey Jr. and Grammy Award-nominated singer and actress Chloe Bailey are set to star in a new horror film titled Goons. More on this upcoming movie below.
Production on Goons is currently underway in New Orleans, Louisiana. It's a movie from American filmmaker Gerard McMurray, who co-wrote the script with Hodge K. Johnson. He is also signed on to direct. McMurray is best known for co-writing the screenplay for and helming the Netflix drama film Burning Sands. In addition, he directed the action horror film The First Purge.
Film producer and director Tommy Oliver will produce and fully finance Goons via his Confluential Films banner, which will make the movie under its new genre label, New Fear Unlocked Productions. McMurray's Buppie Productions will also produce the film together with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked.
Sadly, plot details are being kept secret at the moment, but Goons is said to take place against the eerie backdrop of Louisiana's cane fields and plantations. A New Orleans native, McMurray calls this film a "love letter" to his hometown.
In a statement to Deadline, McMurray expresses his excitement in getting the opportunity to make Goons.
"I’m beyond excited to direct a film in the horror genre. Goons is a love letter to my hometown of New Orleans, and a deeply personal story for me. Producing this film along with Confluential/New Fear Unlocked shows the power of Black storytellers with a collaborative spirit."

Oliver also had something to say about working with McMurray on making the horror flick.
"I can’t wait for audiences to see what Gerard and I are cooking up with the kick-ass squad we’ve assembled. I also couldn’t be more excited to kick off New Fear Unlocked with this film from such a talented director."

Rainey Jr. is best known for starring as Tariq St. Patrick in the crime drama series Power and its spinoff Power Book II: Ghost. Some of his other acting work includes his recurring role as Michael Burset in the comedy-drama series Orange Is the New Black. He also had roles in the movies LUV, Barbershop: The Next Cut, Amateur and 211.
Bailey is best known for being part of the award-winning singing duo, Chloe X Halle, with her sister, Halle Bailey (The Little Mermaid). She can also be recognized from her acting work such as the psychological horror series Swarm and the supernatural horror film The Exorcism. Besides Goons, we'll see her next in the upcoming crime drama series Fight Night: The Million Dollar Heist, which is set to be released on Peacock on Sept. 5, 2024.
