The Friday the 13th universe is expanding, though not in the way we've all been hoping for, at least not yet. No, there aren't any new movies on the way, but Horror, Inc. exclusively revealed their plans to IGN last week to launch the "Jason Universe," which will include immersive experiences, games, merchandise, and other entertainment.

While movies are still not on the table due to the ongoing entanglement involving the rights, television is still in play. Peacock and A24 are continuing to develop a Friday the 13th prequel series titled Crystal Lake, previously involving Hannibal showrunner Bryan Fuller, though he recently exited the series.

In 2022, Fuller discussed the movie rights issue, telling Fangoria that "they are tied up at New Line and are super, super messy and probably won't be untangled anytime soon."

So we'll have to get our Jason Voorhees fix in other ways, which is exactly what Horror, Inc. intends to focus on moving forward. They've already launched an official Jason Universe website, and if you want to keep up with the latest updates, I recommend signing up for the newsletter. Horror, Inc. president Robert Barsamian released a statement saying he and his company are very "excited to work with Victor Miller and Marc Taberoff on new projects" they plan to announce in the coming months. Miller wrote the screenplay for the original Friday the 13th movie and reclaimed the domestic rights to the film in 2021.

The last Friday the 13th movie to be released was the 2009 remake from New Line, starring Danielle Panabaker and Jared Padalecki, with Derek Mears as the iconic slasher.

Barsamian has previously worked on the franchise as an executive producer on the 2017 video game.

"We’re focused on honoring the legacy while elevating the fan experience and appealing to today’s horror audiences as we develop new ways to watch, interact and engage with the Jason Universe."

Jason Voorhees to appear in WB's free-to-play MultiVersus game

On May 20, we got our first look at Jason's next appearance as a character in the new Warner Bros. video game MultiVersus, a free-to-play crossover fighting game featuring tons of iconic characters and settings, allowing players to choose their character and fight one another in epic brawls.

The newly released trailer shows Jason working alongside DC's Joker and Agent Smith from The Matrix universe. So if you are looking for your latest Friday the 13th fix, that's your best bet. MultiVersus will be released on May 28 for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
