What I enjoy about the horror genre is how diverse it is. It consists of many subgenres, each appealing to different tastes. One subgenre of horror that many horror fans, including myself, seem to enjoy is doll horror movies.

These types of films typically center around an evil doll or similar inanimate objects that somehow come to life and start causing terror by hunting down and terrorizing humans. Since dolls are usually viewed as harmless children's toys, seeing them turned into objects of fear and terror can be disturbing. Honestly, just the thought of an inanimate object coming to life can be unsettling and heightens the fear factor. But that doesn't mean I'm going to stop watching these types of movies.

In fact, I've watched my fair share of doll horror movies, and I thought I'd share with you some of the most disturbing ones I've watched. Below, you'll find a list of seven of the most disturbing doll horror films. Maybe you're not a scaredy cat and can watch these movies by yourself. Be my guest. But grab a friend or two if you can! These movies are meant to be watched with others.

Annabelle (2014)

Where to watch: Netflix, available to rent or buy on digital platforms

Annabelle is a supernatural horror film helmed by John R. Leonetti from a screenplay written by Gary Dauberman. It serves as a spinoff and prequel to The Conjuring (2013) and delves into the backstory of Annabelle, a cursed doll who brings horror and chaos into a young couple's lives.

John and Mia Form are expecting their first child together. As a gift for their unborn baby, John gifts Mia a vintage porcelain doll named Annabelle, which they place in the baby's nursery. One night, a satanic cult invades the home of John and Mia. During the home invasion, one of the cult members commits suicide while holding the Annabelle doll, with their blood seeping into it.

The cops eventually arrive and shut everything down. But days later, the Form family begins to experience a series of disturbing and supernatural events centered around the doll. Why? Well, when the cult member's blood seeped into Annabelle, this allowed a demonic entity to attach itself to the doll. Annabelle is now terrorizing the young couple. If they don't want to lose their lives, John and Mia must find a way to defeat the evil doll before it's too late. You can check out the official trailer above.
