Mr. Crocket climbs out of the TV to kidnap kids in spooky Huluween Original
By Mads Lennon
As an avid fan of analog horror and The Ring, Hulu has me hooked and excited for the upcoming horror film Mr. Crocket. Like a sinister version of Mister Rogers' Neighborhood, Mr. Crocket is based in a world where the titular character is the star and host of a children's television program—with a very dark twist. Mr. Crocket likes to pop out of the television and kidnap children, murdering their parents in the process. You've never had a friend like him, indeed!
Billed as a "Huluween Original," Mr. Crocket starts streaming on Hulu this October as part of the streamer's annual frightfest. It's directed by up-and-coming filmmaker Brandon Espy from a script he wrote with Carl Reid. This full-length feature is actually based on Espy's previous short film of the same name that aired as part of Hulu's Bite Size Halloween in 2022. You can watch the short right here.
The original short film has a pretty bleak ending, with Summer (Cecelia Friday) failing to rescue her son (Juliano Valdi) after he's snatched up and transported into Mr. Crocket's World. It'll be interesting to see how the movie expands on the story and whether it has a happier final act.
Grey's Anatomy alum Jerrika Hinton stars as a mother desperate to track down the malevolent Mr. Crocket and rescue her son after he becomes the TV host's latest victim. Elvis Nolasco (Godfather of Harlem), Ayden Gavin (Big George Foreman), Kristolyn Lloyd (The Bold and the Beautiful), and Alex Akpobome (Industry) also star.
Read the full synopsis below:
"In 1993, a mysterious children's show host, Mr. Crocket, magically emerges from television sets to kidnap young children, brutally slaying their parents in the process. After Mr. Crocket snatches her son, one determined mother embarks on a perilous quest to track down the demonic entertainer and rescue her boy."
Mr. Crocket was developed by WorthenBrooks, with Arbi Pedrossian, Jenna Cavelle, David Brooks, and Carl Reid acting as lead producers. Sean King O'Grady, Josh Feldman, and Jesse Ford are listed as co-producers, and Miles Alva executive produced the film.
In addition to the official trailer above, Hulu also shared a very creepy in-world teaser of Mr. Crocket's World.
Mr. Crocket will begin streaming on Hulu on Friday, October 11. Be sure to check out the entire Hulu and Disney+ Halloween slate right here.
