New trailer for Shudder Original film Infested will give you the creepy-crawlies
If you suffer from Arachnophobia and subscribe to Shudder, this is your trigger warning: A new film called Infested will begin streaming on the horror platform next month as a Shudder Original.
By Carla Davis
Infested was first introduced as a special screening at the 2023 Venice Film Festival, then hit Fantastic Fest and Sitges, winning awards along the way.
At Venice, it was nominated for two Cesar awards for Best First Feature Film and Best Visual Effects. It won two awards at Fantastic Fest: Best Picture (Horror) and Best Director (Horror).
At Sitges, it won a Special Jury Award “for being a powerful and political movie.” Add these acknowledgements to the trailer (which you can watch at the end of this article), and it’s a must see horror film!
Look, I don’t even especially have a fear of spiders, but that trailer literally gave me the chills. Ugh.
The main character is 29-year-old Kaleb, who is feeling especially lonely and vulnerable. He has recently broken off from his best friend after an argument, and he and his sister are currently battling over a family inheritance. When he happens upon a dangerous spider, he brings it home to keep him company.
That turns out to be a big mistake, because this spider gets out of the box it is housed in and manages to reproduce, turning the entire apartment building into a giant webbed trap. Kaleb and the others in the building must find a way to get out before they are all killed by the spider.
The trailer gives a hint as to why Sitges considered it “political,” since it looks like the apartment building is inhabited by lower income families and individuals…and we know that means less attention is paid to the danger by officials in charge.
Rafael Motamayor of SlashFilm reviewed Infested in September, and had this to say: “Infested is a balls-to-the-wall, 80s-inspired creature feature with many a horrific moment that will make you kick your legs up or shake your arms off just in case.”
Infested will begin streaming on Shudder April 26, so mark it on your calendar!
