By Mads Lennon
Dubbed "a clever masterpiece" by Stephen King, JT Mollner's Strange Darling is a dirty and chaotic neon-soaked thrill ride boasting riveting performances from its stars Kyle Gallner and Willa Fitzgerald. This is one of those movies you do not want to miss, and it's best to see it as soon as you can to prevent getting spoiled. Mollner's script is vicious and smart, to be reveled in.
Luckily for those eager to see Strange Darling, the film will be out very soon, and in the meantime, there's a new trailer and posters to check out!
Thankfully, the marketing team for this one is keen enough to carefully edit its publicity materials to avoid spoiling anything, so you can watch the trailer below without fear of ruining the viewing experience. Having seen the film myself, I can assure you it doesn't give anything away.
You can't go wrong with a split diopter shot.
Strange Darling starts as a seemingly normal one-night stand that takes a turn into murderous territory when a serial killer embarks on a vicious murder spree. Gallner, whose previous credits include the excellent film The Passenger and Smile, stars opposite of MTV's Scream and The Fall of the House of Usher star Willa Fitzgerald. Mollner wrote and directed the film.
Critics have been praising Strange Darling as a film "destined to become a cult classic," with significant acclaim going toward the leads' performances. It currently holds a perfect 100% approval score on Rotten Tomatoes.
The film will officially be released in theaters on Friday, August 23, but there are select screenings showing the film earlier. You can see if there are any early showtimes at theaters near you at strangedarlingfilm.com. On Wednesday, August 14, select theaters will feature a livestream Q&A with the filmmakers and actors starting at 9 p.m. PT and 6 p.m. ET.
Besides the new trailer featured above, here are two new posters showing Fitzgerald's character "The Lady" and Gallner's "The Demon."
