Niecy Nash is returning to the world of Ryan Murphy for her new horror drama series Grotesquerie, in which she plays a detective on the lookout for an unnatural evil prowling her community.

Nash's character Det. Lois Tyron investigates a series of horrific crimes plaguing the community with assistance from a local nun named Sister Megan, played by Tony Award-nominated actress Micaela Diamond. Not only is Sister Megan a nun, but she's also a journalist who enjoys digging into the meaning behind rituals, cults, and other macabre practices. It also looks like she might have a sex thing with the priest, Father Charles, played by Nicholas Alexander Chavez...interesting.

The Grotesquerie trailer reminds me of another big horror title released this year, Longlegs. Both projects involve a horrific killer with potential Satanic connections, murdering people in a gruesome fashion. Detective Tyron even posits that whatever is executing these terrible crimes is something worse than inhuman; they're "unhuman," meaning there might be a supernatural twist at play.

We don't see the exact nature of all of the crimes set to be featured in the show, but quick snippets show what appears to be the body of a stripper tied to her pole and at least one murdered family. There are also a lot of creepy crime scene photos and the bloody aftermath of the killer, or killer(s)? crimes. And yes, we do get the tiniest snippet of Travis Kelce telling Nash that "there is no future here," though no further details were revealed about his character.

Before landing this show, Nash received acclaim for her performance in Murphy's other popular series, the 2022 show Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, which earned her an Emmy Award and a Golden Globe nomination.

Funnily enough, Grotesquerie star Nicholas Alexander Chavez had a different trailer premiere today for a separate Murphy production. Chavez plays one of the Menendez brothers in the upcoming Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story. In Grotesquerie, Chavez plays a priest who seems to have a dark side and enjoys self-flagellation.

Courtney B. Vance, Lesley Manville, and Raven Goodwin also star.

Grotesquerie will officially premiere on September 25 on FX.
