The fifth season of Outrageous Pumpkins premiered on Food Network this past weekend and it's with a twist. Season 5 is an "all-star" season, which seems to be the theme for all of Food Network's Halloween shows this year.

Fourteen of the best carvers in the country will be divided into seven teams and compete for the chance to win $50,000. Damaris Phillips returns to host alongside judge Terri Hardin and guest judge Deane Arnold.

For the first challenge, the duos are tasked with bringing their assigned nightmare scenario to life by using at least 20 pumpkins. Later, the "jump scare" twist is thrown in that also says they'll need to include three jack-o-lanterns.

Meet the all-star duos

  • Chaminda Weerappulige & David Smith: Chaminda became the season 4 champion and returns for another chance at the title; in addition to being a pumpkin carver, David is a world champion ice sculptor (@david.smith.pablo)
  • William Wilson & Daniel Miller: William is a Food Network regular having previously competed on Outrageous Pumpkins season 2 and Halloween Wars; Daniel is a previous Halloween Wars winner and also a season 4 competitor (@danielmillercreations)
  • Brandy Davis & Brian "Tator" Edwards: Brandy has been on the Food Network multiple times just like her competitors (@the_pumpkin_artist); You might recognize Tator from Halloween Wars (@tatoredwards)
  • Titus Arensburg & Carli Idhe: Titus previously competed on season 2 (@titusarensberg); Carli is also a talented tattoo artist (@carlieyed)
  • Rebecca Degroot & James Hall: Rebecca competed alongside Ethan and Chaminda during season 4 (@rebecca_degroot); She pairs up with James (@jameshallcreations)
  • Willy Tuz & Ryan Anderson: Food Network finalist and Halloween Wars season 12 competitor (@willy.tuz); Ryan won season 2 of Outrageous Pumpkins (@sculpturesinmotion)
  • Ethan Anderson & Danny Kissel: Ethan went up against Chaminda in season 4 (@ethanand.art); Danny was the season 1 champ (@dannykissel88)

The top two came down to Rebecca & James and Daniel & William and the judges chose Rebecca & James as the first winning team because of their excellent depiction of "falling." For their creation, they made a man who loves throwing pumpkins off roofs, fall off a roof into a giant pumpkin mouth instead.

As for the bottom two, it came down to Brandy/Taylor and Danny/Ethan. Brandy/Taylor because their lost zombie didn't feel as polished as it could have been and Danny/Ethan because their vampire with its teeth felling out looked under-sculpted. However, in a surprise twist, the judges reveal that no one is going home this week! But it will be the only elimination where that is the case.

So next week, Rebecca/James will get a big advantage and everyone else better bring their A-game because someone will be going home next time.
