Peacock enters its horror era with Summer Scares collection
By Mads Lennon
In an era with countless streaming services available, it's hard to figure out which ones are worth subscribing to and which ones aren't. Before making your decision for the summer months ahead, let me take a moment to point you in the direction of Peacock.
As one of the less popular services out there, Peacock often gets overlooked, but it's actually one of my preferred streamers because of its outstanding collection of cozy sitcoms (Modern Family, The Office, Superstore, etc.) and its surprisingly broad range of horror movies. It helps that since this is the NBCUniversal app, they have access to a deep catalog of new and classic films.
If you're looking for more scares this summer, don't miss out on Peacock's "Summer Scares" collection!
I highly recommend a few newer titles, like the underrated horror-comedy film Lisa Frankenstein, written by Diablo Cody and starring Kathryn Newton and Cole Sprouse.
It would make a great double feature with another popular Newton horror-comedy film, Freaky, which is also available on Peacock. And Jennifer's Body starts streaming on the service on June 1, meaning you can watch two Cody movies back-to-back!
One of my favorite horror movies of all time, the original 1974 Texas Chainsaw Massacre from director Tobe Hooper, is also available on Peacock right now! The hot summer months are the ideal time to revisit this iconic slasher.
Other newer releases from this year or the last couple of years include M3GAN, Night Swim, They/Them, and Sick. I'll be honest: I haven't seen They/Them, and I hated Night Swim, but M3GAN and Sick are solid, with Sick being a more serious slasher and M3GAN a fun and darkly comedic horror film about a killer doll.
Beyond the films listed above, Peacock's horror collection features acclaimed horror movies like Jordan Peele's Get Out, the satirical meta-horror film The Cabin in the Woods, and Bong Joon-ho's epic monster movie The Host. Psychological frights like Donnie Darko, Knock at the Cabin, Memento, and American Psycho are also streaming.
For those who love a good throwback, don't miss out on Sleepaway Camp (1983), Prom Night (1980), Phantasm (1979), Night of the Living Dead (1968), Black Christmas (1974), The Changeling (1980), and Chopping Mall (1986).
This June, Peacock is adding other favorites like Ghostbusters (1984), What Lies Below, and more.
