Peacock is mounting a prequel series for Friday the 13th!
By Abby Moser
Calling all Friday the 13th fans! Peacock announced they are reviving the famous franchise with a prequel tv show. It's time to revisit Camp Crystal Lake and learn the full story of both Mrs. Voorhees and our favorite slasher Jason.
Peacock has yet to release more details on the tv show but here's what we know so far! The series originates from A24, the studio that brought us countless movies including Midsommar, Hereditary The Witch and much more. We also know that Bryan Fuller is writing and executive producing the show. Fuller also worked on the tv show Hannibal, (one of my personal favorites) so there will be no shortage of gore and bloodshed on the screen.
Another exciting piece of news for fans is that Adrienne King has joined the project. Does that name sound familiar? King is the original final girl, Alice, from the very first Friday the 13th back in 1980. Rumor has it she's going to have a role in the show, whether big or small is yet to be revealed. King has been sharing countless photos on Instagram teasing the new show and her potential role. Fuller has yet to post on his social media with any possible teasers.
The cast has yet to be revealed but is speculated to be announced within the coming months. The project was pushed back due to the writer and actor strike last year. Originally the show was to begin filming March 2024 but will now begin filming sometime in the summer. There has been no news on the potential release date and could even be pushed into 2025.
Fuller is excited about where the story could possibly go, stating he was a fan since he was just 10 years old. He is looking forward to exploring the relationship between Pamela and Jason, but the whole of the plot is also under wraps, so the story could go absolutely anywhere. He even joked about the possibility of going to hell or space (again) if the show reaches 10 seasons.
Keep an eye out for future updates and the eventual cast reveal!
