Rosemary's Baby prequel film starring Julia Garner coming to Paramount+ this fall
By Mads Lennon
Have your tannis root at the ready because Rosemary's Baby is getting a new prequel film titled Apartment 7A this fall, exclusively on Paramount+. The upcoming psychological thriller film will star Golden Globe winner Julia Garner (Ozark, Inventing Anna) and explores the iconic Bramford apartment that Rosemary moves into with her husband Guy Woodhouse in 1965, New York City.
Apartment 7A is set ten years before the classic horror movie, in 1955. Apart from Garner, the film will also star Academy Award winner Dianne Wiest, Jim Sturgess (Across the Universe), and Kevin McNally (Pirates of the Caribbean). Natalie Erika James (Relic) will direct and the film is produced by Platinum Dunes / Sunday Night in Association with Paramount Pictures.
The film hails from the filmmakers behind the A Quiet Place franchise and The Purge film series, with John Krasinski listed as a producer along with Allyson Seeger, p.g.a, Michael Bay, Andrew Form, p.g.a, and Brad Fuller.
Garner plays a young dancer living at the Bramford. When she suffers a devastating injury, she finds herself leaning on an older couple with connections living in the building. There are some interesting credits listed for the film on IMDb, including McNally as Roman Castavet, who was one half of the antagonistic couple in the original film alongside his wife Minnie Castavet. Minnie isn't credited on IMDb, but I imagine that the character will be in the series.
Additional supporting cast includes Marli Siu (Everything I Know About Love), Andrew Buchan (All the Money in the World), Rosy McEwen (Blue Jean) and Kobna Holdbrook-Smith (Wonka).
It also looks like other characters from Rosemary's Baby like Dr. Sapirstein will be in the movie. Some rumors have suggested that Garner might be playing the tenant referenced in the beginning of Rosemary's Baby as the woman who died under mysterious circumstances before the Woodhouse's moved in.
The psychological horror film was originally announced back in March 2021 and now we finally know that the movie will be released in the fall of 2024, though an exact date has not yet been announced. It is based on a story from Skylar James with a script by Natalie Erika James, Christian White, and James.
"APARTMENT 7A is the perfect way to kick off the Halloween season. Director Natalie Erika James and the prodigious creative team have crafted a chilling and clever new entry into the genre."
- Jeff Grossman, Executive VP, Programming
Those excited to watch Apartment 7A will need a Paramount+ account to do so. The film will be available to watch in the US and select international markets. It'll be a nice addition to the streaming service's "Peak Screaming" collection, curated for Halloween each year.
