HGTV is gearing up for the spooky season, just like all of the other networks, and recently announced a follow-up to their popular Ugliest House in America series starring comedian and actress Retta and HGTV designer Alison Victoria.

Scariest House in America follows Retta as she travels in search of the creepiest properties in America. Victoria will plan a $150,000 renovation for the scariest home. Among the houses featured in the debut season are a bat-infested former jailhouse, an alleged mobster den, and at least one house that gives off some seriously "witchy vibes."

Most fans know Retta best for her iconic and hilarious portrayal of Donna Meagle in the acclaimed NBC sitcom Parks & Recreation and Ruby Hill in the drama Good Girls. Since 2022, she's hosted five seasons of Ugliest House in America and seen all sorts of botched renovations.

It'll be fun to see her address these creepy houses in the new series, which includes nine homes scattered throughout the Midwest, Northeast, and South, featuring "everything from built-in death traps and questionable taxidermy to daunting basements and ghost sightings."

According to Retta, this new show took her by surprise. She admitted that as someone easily scared, she didn't necessarily "enjoy" exploring the terrifying homes at the center of Scariest House in America.

"I was cool with the summer road trip and ugly in paradise, but, for a gal that is spooked by every creak, critter and errant hair that brushes my shoulder, this wasn’t it. Glad I got through it, but I won’t lie and say I ‘enjoyed’ it."

The scariest house will get the $150k renovation by Victoria. Both series are produced by Big Fish Entertainment and Ugliest House in America will return with new episodes in 2025.

Fans eager to stay caught up with exclusive content from the series can learn more at HGTV.com or by following @HGTV and the #ScariestHouse tag on Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter).

Currently, past seasons of Ugliest House in America are available to watch on Max and Discovery+, similarly, Scariest House in America will stream the same day and time on Max and Discovery+ as its linear airing.

HGTV's Scariest House in America premieres on Friday, Oct. 4, at 9 p.m. ET/PT.
