Shudder: Premiere date and roster of judges announced for The Boulet Brothers' Dragula season six
By Carla Davis
Fans of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula have been chomping at the bit for news about season six of the dark-themed competition series. Well, Shudder has now released the premiere date, along with a few other nuggets of info.
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula has come a long way since the first season, which aired on YouTube. Shudder picked up the series starting with Dragula: Resurrection, which was filmed at the contestants’ homes during the COVID quarantine, and season four picked up the following year. This year, Dragula and the Boulets were nominated for two Emmy awards (for makeup and hairstyling).
In addition to six seasons and Resurrection, the Boulet Brothers are also responsible for Dragula: Titans, which also aired on Shudder. Contestants on Titans were all prior competitors on various seasons of Dragula.
When does season six of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula premiere on Shudder?
Season six will open with a “supersized” episode, clocking in at an hour and a half. The first episode will debut on Tuesday, October 1, both on Shudder and AMC+. A new hour long episode will be available to watch each week thereafter on Tuesdays.
Shudder describes season six (dubbed “Season 666”) as “the most ambitious and terrifying yet, with world-renowned actors and directors joining the judges' panel, raising the stakes to hellish new heights. Every episode promises spine-chilling, extreme physical feats that will push the cast of drag superstars to confront their darkest fears.”
Consisting of 10 episodes, this season will involve new floorshow themes, bolder (and bloodier) challenges and as always, some truly jaw-dropping horror-themed drag and makeup.
Dracmorda and Swan promise that they will once again push the boundaries of traditional horror and drag, and say that “the competition is deadlier, the challenges are more brutal…and the fear is real.”
The roster of season six judges consist of some returnees, and some newbies to Dragula, including Jennifer Tilly (Chucky), Mike Flanagan (The Fall of the House of Usher), David Dastmalchian (Late Night with the Devil), Jamie Clayton (Hellraiser), Joe Bob Briggs and Darcy the Mail Girl (The Last Drive-In with Joe Bob Briggs) and Violet Chachki (RuPaul’s Drag Race).
As an added bonus, the series has partnered with horror video game production company Dead by Daylight to present a special challenge. The winner of said challenge will have the honor or joining the Boulets as playable skins in the game.
If you aren’t familiar with The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula, it’s a drag competition with an evil twist. Contestants compete in horror-themed competitions that involve makeup and costume skills, performances and participation in icky, sometimes painful activities. Past elimination challenges have included electrical shocks, riding a mechanical bull, being subjected to vacuum sealed latex and transferring maggots from one container to another using only your mouth.
All five seasons of Dragula can be watched on Shudder, along with Dragula: Titans and Dragula: Resurrection. And The Boulet Brothers’ Halfway to Halloween special can also be streamed on Shudder (you should really watch it, it’s a lot of fun).
