Sleepwalking proves to be dangerous in new trailer for Korean horror-thriller Sleep
After having its world premiere at the 2023 Cannes Film Festival in May 2023, followed by its theatrical release in South Korea in September 2023, the new South Korean horror-thriller Sleep is gearing up to be released in theaters everywhere and on digital this September. The exact date is Sept. 27, 2024.
Sleep was written and directed by Jason Yu, marking it as his feature film debut. He had previously worked as an associate director on the action-thriller Real and as an assistant director on the action-adventure film Okja.
The horror-thriller stars the late Lee Sun-kyun and Jung Yu-mi as Hyeon-soo and Soo-jin, a happily married couple who find their blissful lives disrupted when Hyeon-soo begins to exhibit strange and disturbing behavior. Every night, whenever he falls asleep, Hyeon-soo becomes an entirely different person.
He talks in his sleep and also sleepwalks. While this might not seem like something to be concerned about, seeing as though it's common to talk in your sleep or sleepwalk, Hyeon-soo acts very strangely and aggressively when he sleepwalks, leading Soo-jin to fear for her life and their newborn baby. Could something supernatural be responsible for the way Hyeon-soo is behaving? Soo-jin seems to think so. Check out the gripping official trailer below!
Lee Sun-kyun was best known for starring in the Academy Award-winning dark comedy thriller Parasite. Some of his other acting work included roles in the Korean series Coffee Prince, Behind the White Tower, Pasta, Golden Time, My Mister and Payback. He also starred in the Korean movies Paju, Helpless, All About My Wife and A Hard Day.
Sadly, he passed away at the age of 48 by suicide in December 2023. Sleep, the disaster thriller film Project Silence and the drama film The Land of Happiness are some of Lee Sun-kyun's final film appearances.
Jung Yu-mi, on the other hand, is best known for starring as Seong-kyeong in the horror film Train to Busan. She also had roles in movies such as Family Ties, Chaw, My Dear Desperado, Silenced, Kim Ji-young, Born 1982 and Wonderland. When it comes to TV, you might recognize her from her roles in the Korean shows Discovery of Love and Live.
Sleep is a horror film that should absolutely be on your watchlist. It's definitely on ours!
