Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun to be adapted into an animated series for Netflix
Netflix has done it again! The streaming giant knows just how to make its subscriber base happy. We've been hearing about a lot of different book-to-movie or book-to-TV adaptations from Netflix, and this time around, the streamer has announced a new animated series adaptation of Stephenie Meyer’s Midnight Sun book!
Don't know who Stephenie Meyer is? Well, she's the author of the bestselling book series Twilight. Yes, the same vampire novels that were adapted into movies that ended up being box-office hits. Those movies are Twilight (2008), The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009), The Twilight Saga: Eclipse (2010), The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1 (2011) and The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2 (2012). Each film continued the beautiful yet unconventional love story between human Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson).
Midnight Sun is another one of Meyer's vampire books. It serves as a retelling of the first book in the Twilight novel series, Twilight, which explores the beginnings of Bella and Edward's unorthodox romance. However, instead of the book being told from the perspective of Bella, it's told from Edward's point of view. It was originally released on Aug. 4, 2020.
The Midnight Sun animated series adaptation is reportedly in development at Netflix. Sinead Daly (Tell Me Lies, The Walking Dead: World Beyond, The Get Down) is signed on as an executive producer and will also write the scripts. Meyer and Meghan Hibbett will executive produce for Fickle Fish Films, Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen for Temple Hill Entertainment, and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey for Picturestart. In addition, Lionsgate TV will produce the series.
Sadly, that's all that's been revealed about the new animated series so far. As new information comes out, like the official synopsis, the episode count, the voice cast list, etc., we'll be sure to come back and share everything we found. But as of right now, you'll have to stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
