Strange Darling, The Crow, and Blink Twice among 8 scary movies releasing this week

Several new horror movies are releasing this week like The Crow and Strange Darling.

A surprisingly stacked week for new horror movies is ahead of us! Three films hit theaters, including the highly-anticipated and acclaimed film Strange Darling from writer and director JT Mollner along with the Bill Skarsgard-led The Crow and psychological thriller Blink Twice.

Several other films are coming to VOD, such as the premiere of Longlegs. Plus, the series finale of Evil drops this Thursday on Paramount+.

Art of a Hit (VOD, Aug. 20)

Described as a "rock horror" film, Art of a Hit follows a band on the decline desperate to reclaim their former glory. Ryan Donowho stars as the band's lead singer who accepts an invitation from a super-producer to record a new album at an old French chateau. But not long after they start making new music, the group discovers their fiery tensions are the least of their worries.

Stream (Theaters, Aug. 21)

Assembling a multitude of horror icons like Danielle Harris, Tony Todd, David Howard Thornton, Dee Wallace, and more, Stream looks like it's going to be a terrifyingly fun slasher film following a family staying at a hotel, unaware the entire place is actually a facade for a deadly game in which the family must try to survive a sadistic game.

Hell Hole (Shudder Original, Aug. 23)

The filmmaking family who previously made the film Hellbender returns with their latest, a gory creature feature revolving around a team drilling in the Serbian wilderness accidentally drill into an ancient pocket containing a parasitic monster that soon ravages the entire facility.

The Crow (Theaters, Aug. 23)

The complicated legacy of The Crow returns on August 23, this time starring Bill Skarsgaard in the titular role. A dark fantasy film, The Crow follows a murdered musician resurrected and intent on avenging his death, and that of his fiancée, who is played by FKA Twigs here. This will be the fifth movie in The Crow franchise overall.

Strange Darling (Theaters, Aug. 23)

Willa Fitzgerald and Kyle Gallner co-star in this acclaimed psychological thriller following a serial killer whose one-night stand leads to a violent murder spree. The less you know going into Strange Darling the better. It will be released in limited theaters on Friday.

Blink Twice (Theaters, Aug. 23)

Zoë Kravitz makes her directorial debut with Blink Twice, a psychological thriller she co-wrote with E.T. Feigenbaum starring her real-life fiancé Channing Tatum. The film centers on a waitress who gets involved with a tech mogul and travels to his private island, but things quickly go awry when her friend disappears.

Hostile Dimensions (VOD, Aug. 23)

A pair of documentary filmmakers investigate the supposed disappearance of a graffiti artist. Their investigation takes them down an eerie, multi-dimensional journey, and a horrific discovery.

Longlegs (VOD, Aug. 23)

Neon's mega-successful serial killer horror film starring Nicolas Cage and Maika Monroe finally comes home this Friday. If you didn't get the chance to see Longlegs in theaters, you'll be able to pay to rent or buy it digitally now.
