The Platform 2 clip: Meet new characters Permpuán and Zamiatin
By Mads Lennon
One of Netflix's most popular non-English films of all time is getting a sequel this October, and we have a new clip to share as part of this year's Geeked Week festivities!
Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia's 2019 dystopian thriller The Platform (El hoyo) follows a cynical and twisted form of incarceration that puts prisoners in a tower-like structure, forcing all inmates to eat from the same moving platform as it starts at the top of the tower and slowly descends each day, meaning the people on the higher floors can eat their fill, while those on the lower levels get the scraps—if there are any.
In The Platform 2, we return to "The Pit," where a mysterious figure tries to enact a new form of law and order inside the self-managed hellhole. The sequel stars Hovik Keuchkerian and Milena Smit, with Gaztelu-Urrutia returning to direct.
A newly released clip gives us a peek at the dynamic between new characters Zamiatin (Keuchkerian) and Perempuán (Smit).
After introducing themselves, Perempuán thinks back to her past, pre-The Pit, and a flashback shows her talking to someone off-screen, revealing she misses her ex's ham croquettes. Permpuán also says she wants to go into The Hole because she needs "time" to forget what she did. Did Permpuán kill her ex?
That clip expands on a short segment of Permpuán's flashback that was included in Netflix's first teaser a couple of months ago.
The Platform is now streaming on Netflix for those who want to revisit it before the sequel premieres on Friday, October 4.
