After what has felt like an endless wait, The Sandman is finally coming back to Netflix for another season!
While the show’s exact return date and month remain unknown at this time, Netflix confirmed during the 2024 Geeked Week event on Sept. 19 that the highly anticipated second season of The Sandman will arrive sometime in 2025. The confirmation came at the tail end of a newly released behind-the-scenes clip shared during the Geeded Week livestream which offered up a sneak peek of what’s to come from the new season.
The newly released clip gives fans a tease of what they can expect when the new season arrives next year, including the promise of the family dinner scene which star Tom Sturridge called one of the most thrilling moments of the upcoming season.
“One of the most thrilling things about this season is for the first time to have the siblings of The Endless together in one room and to see this extraordinary family exist on screen together,” Sturridge teased of the dinner scene which will be bringing together the cast like we've not yet seen in the series.
Little is known about the upcoming season when it comes to the storylines we can expect, but what we do know is that the season will bring back the many amazing characters introduced in season 1 while also introducing a handful of new characters.
In addition to Sturridge who will return as Dream, Gwendoline Christie (Lucifer Morningstar), Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Death), Mason Alexander Park (Desire), Donna Preston (Despair), Jenna Coleman (Johanna Constantine), Stephen Fry (Gilbert), Kyo Ra (Rose Walker), Ferdinand Kingsley (Hob Gadling), Asim Chaudhry (Abel), Sanjeev Bhaskar (Cain), and Razane Jammal (Lyta Hall) will all be returning for season 2. They'll be joined by newcomers Steve Coogan (Barnabas), Indya Moore (Wanda), Douglas Booth (Cluragan), Ann Skelly (Nuala), Ruairi O'Connor (Orpheus), Freddie Fox (Loki), Laurence O'Fuarain (Thor), Clive Russell (Odin), and Jack Gleeson (Puck).
2025 is shaping up to be quite a busy year for Netflix as The Sandman is among a handful of hit series that will return in 2025 following a delayed break between seasons, a list that also includes the final season of Stranger Things as well as the second season of Wednesday.
The show's first season debuted in August 2022, so it'll be interesting to see if the second season arrives sometime in the summer of 2025 or if Netflix might decide to save the show's return for later in the year perhaps in the fall.
Regardless of when the season arrives, we're just happy to know it indeed is coming back in 2025 and can't wait to see what the new season holds!
The Sandman season 1 is streaming now on Netflix.
