We've officially entered June, and one of the first horror movies to be released in theaters this month is the highly anticipated horror flick The Watchers. Yes, you read that right. The Watchers is finally in theaters, and we're hearing a lot of buzz around it. If you haven't already bought your ticket to see it on the big screen, here's your notice to do so. But if you're waiting until you can watch it from home, unfortunately, you'll be waiting quite a while. We shared more on this movie's streaming release below.

The Watchers is a supernatural horror film written and directed by Ishana Night Shyamalan. You might recognize her as the daughter of Academy nominee M. Night Shyamalan, who is best known for writing and directing the movies The Sixth Sense, Old, Split, Glass and Knock at the Cabin.

With The Watchers, Ishana makes her directorial debut having previously helmed episodes of the horror series Servant. She also helped with directing duties on her father's films Old and Knock at the Cabin.

Based on the 2021 horror novel of the same name by A. M. Shine, The Watchers follows a young woman and artist named Mina, who while traveling, ends up stranded in the woods after her car suddenly breaks down. As she looks around her surroundings, she hears a woman shouting for her to run to a nearby concrete bunker before she's locked out. Mina makes it in time, but she soon discovers that she's not really safe there.

She finds herself in a room with a wall of glass and other strangers. The strangers then inform her that they're all being held captive by mysterious creatures that watch and stalk them every night. Now, Mina and the others must band together to find a way to escape. Dakota Fanning stars in the leading role of 28-year-old artist Mina, while Georgina Campbell, Oliver Finnegan, and Olwen Fouéré join her in the cast.

As mentioned above, it'll be a while before this horror flick makes its way to a streaming service. It has to finish its theatrical run first. However, it will most likely land on Max sometime after it leaves theaters since that's where Warner Bros. theatrical movies usually stream. If we had to guess when this will happen, we'd say somewhere between 60 and 90 days after the theatrical premiere. This is when Warner Bros. theatrical movies typically come to streaming. Since The Watchers hit theaters on June 7, 60 to 90 days later would put the streaming release sometime in August or September 2024. We'll get back to you with the official Max release date once it's announced.

While it'll be a while before The Watchers comes to streaming, the good news is that it will likely be available to rent or buy sooner on digital VOD sites like Amazon Prime Video and Vudu. We're probably looking at around 45 days after its theatrical release for the movie to land on digital platforms. This means we could be seeing The Watchers available to purchase or rent digitally sometime in July 2024. We'll also get back to you with the official digital release date once it's made known. But for now, the only way you can see this horror film is by heading to the theater.
