We're getting so close to trekking back to the dark and ominous atmosphere of Blackwood Mountain with the upcoming Until Dawn remaster launching this October. PlayStation has released a new trailer that compares the original 2015 game with the remaster, which was completely rebuilt from the ground up in Unreal Engine 5.

Almost 10 years after Supermassive Games released the original Until Dawn and helped define the genre of cinematic, narrative-focused horror games, the remaster will include many updates, including character models, visual effects, interactable props, and more.

Additional features include:

  • More accessibility and usability settings
  • New collectibles! All of the original totems have been relocated to encourage player exploration and there is also a new totem and other small new interactions and extra content included in the remaster.
  • Texture improvements
  • A reworked prologue that improves pacing and adds some screentime for Hannah and Josh Washington along with reframing scenes around the prank that kicks off the plot

Check out the official PlayStation blog post to see a full rundown of what fans can expect from the upcoming remaster and below you can watch the comparison trailer that gives visuals to compare and contrast the 2015 game with the remaster.

In addition to the new game, an Until Dawn film adaptation is also in the works. Production has recently started on the movie, which will be directed by David F. Sandberg and stars Ella Rubin, Michael Cimino, Ji-young Yoo, Odessa A'zion, Maia Mitchell, Belmont Cameli, and Peter Stormare.

The only downside to the movie is that it will be about a new story, so don't expect to see a retread of the video game. But with the remastered game coming out, it might be nice to get a totally fresh take that introduces us to new characters.

Until Dawn is launching on PS5 and PC on October 4. Pre-orders will begin on August 21 and the game will release on PC at 8 a.m. PDT worldwide. Stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more details on all things Until Dawn and horror gaming!
