Upcoming BritBox mystery thriller series Passenger is perfect for Broadchurch fans
By Mads Lennon
BritBox is releasing a captivating and harrowing new mystery thriller series this October, ideal for fans of atmospheric crime dramas like Broadchurch and The Killing. The new show, Passenger, is led by Loki star Wunmi Mosaku and marks the screenwriting debut of Broadchurch star Andrew Buchan, also known for his work on series like The Honourable Woman and Better.
Set in the fictional small town of Chadder Vale, Passenger centers on Mosaku's character, a former Met police detective, Riya Ajunwa. Riya begins investigating a series of strange and unexplainable crimes plaguing the close-knit community.
It all started when Riya traveled to the northern town five years prior in search of the "one big crime" that would reinvigorate her and remind her what it feels like to be alive. One night, a young girl named Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson) vanishes, seemingly into thin air. The town barely gets a chance to wrap its mind around Katie's disappearance when she returns as if nothing happened.
Normal life resumes, but for Riya, none of this sits right with her, especially when several other strange happenings and shocking crimes start happening across Chadder Vale. But the townsfolk refuse to acknowledge the oddities, blaming outsider influence and pushing back against Riya's claims that something isn't right. What are they hiding?
We have the first official teaser for the show right here:
Besides Mosaku, the series also stars Rowan Robinson (A Haunting in Venice), David Threlfall (Shameless), and Barry Sloane (Revenge). Nicole Charles and Lee Haven Jones (The Feast) direct.
The official release date for Passenger has not been shared yet, but it will be released this October through BritBox and will consist of six episodes. You'll need to have a subscription to use the service.
Currently, it costs $8.99/month or $89.99/year. The channel is also available as an add-on through Amazon Prime Video. BritBox offers a 7-day free trial.
