Watch the gripping trailer for upcoming BritBox mystery series Passenger
By Mads Lennon
The leaves are starting to crunch underfoot and I've detected a chill in the air. Autumn is only a few weeks away and what better way to get in the cozy mood than by hunkering down with BritBox's buzzy new crime drama series Passenger, from the producers of Chernobyl.
Revolving around the cloistered small town of Chaddar Vale, Passenger follows former Met Detective Riya Ajunwa (Wunmi Mosaku)'s investigation into the town's many strange occurrences, like the disappearance of local woman Katie Wells (Rowan Robinson). In a twist on the traditional crime drama set-up, Katie returns just one day after vanishing, apparently safe and sound.
With Katie back, the townsfolk are content to close the case and move on, but Riya suspects something is seriously amiss, especially when more shocking crimes start happening. Her investigation is further complicated by the residents' reluctance to assist an outsider. What are they hiding?
Passenger will premiere on Thursday, October 17 at 9:00 p.m. ET on BritBox with its first two episodes, followed by two episodes weekly until the October 31 finale. Those in attendance at this year's New York Comic Con will have the opportunity to check out a special advanced screening and panel ahead of the premiere.
In addition to BAFTA-winning actor Wunmi Mosaku (Loki), Passenger also stars Barry Sloane (Revenge), Rowan Robinson (A Haunting in Venice), David Threlfall (Shameless), Arian Nik (Count Abdulla), and Ella Bruccoleri (Call the Midwife).
The series comes from the mind of Andrew Buchanan in his debut screenwriting role. Buchanan is best known for his performances in The Honourable Woman, Broadchurch, and Better. Nicole Charles (The Following Events Are Based on a Pack of Lies) and Lee Haven Jones (The Feast) each direct three episodes of the six-episode mystery.
For those without a BritBox subscription, the streaming service is the best place to watch British television. Sign up here to ensure you can watch Passenger this October. The streamer offers a 7-day free trial, and prices start at $8.99/month.
