We could possibly be seeing another beloved television series get the reboot treatment soon, and this show is one many fans have been hoping to see return in some way. It's the hit supernatural horror series, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and the show's main star recently announced that she'd be down to reprise her role as the titular character.
During a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, Christian Slater and Sarah Michelle Gellar sat down with host Drew Barrymore to discuss their new show, Dexter: Original Sin. At one point during the interview, Barrymore asked Gellar if she'd be open to returning for a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot. Of course, this question got the audience immediately clapping as they awaited her response.
This wasn't the first time that Gellar was asked this question. When she was asked about a Buffy reboot in the past, she pretty much shut down the idea. However, according to her response to Barrymore, things have changed since then. She told Barrymore, "It’s funny, I always used to say no, because it’s in its bubble and it’s so perfect. But watching Sex and the City and seeing Dexter, and realizing there are ways to do it, definitely does get your mind thinking, ‘Well, maybe.'”
So, if there were to be a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, would it be a prequel series like Dexter: Original Sin? Well, not necessarily. Gellar told Barrymore that Buffy wouldn't need to be a prequel for it to come back. She said, "No, it could be anything. It’s a universe. And it makes you realize that in this world, we need those heroes, I think, more so than ever." Fingers crossed, a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot really happens!
The original series was created by Joss Whedon and aired on The WB for five seasons before airing its last two seasons on UPN. Its run was from 1997 to 2003. The show follows a young woman named Buffy Summers, who is chosen by fate to protect the world from dark forces such as vampires, demons, and other supernatural threats. Gellar starred in the leading role of Buffy. Joining her in the cast were Nicholas Brendon, Alyson Hannigan, Charisma Carpenter, Anthony Stewart Head, David Boreanaz, Seth Green, James Marsters, and many others.
Earlier this year, Buffy the Vampire Slayer producer Dolly Parton told Business Insider that there are plans for a Buffy revival. She said, "They're still working on that. They're thinking about bringing it back and revamping it." However, Parton didn't reveal who would be behind it. As more details emerge about a potential Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot, we'll share everything we found. But for now, stay tuned to 1428 Elm!
