Acclaimed sci-fi horror series Scavengers Reign won't get season 2 at Netflix

Scavengers Reign fans received some sad news today, with co-creator Joseph Bennett confirming via Instagram that the series will not continue on Netflix.
In May of this year, Max canceled the acclaimed mixed-genre series. Shortly after, Netflix added the show's first (and now only) season to its platform in multiple territories, including the U.S. and the U.K. At the time, Variety indicated that the streaming service was mulling over a decision to renew the series for a second season depending on its viewership numbers.
On November 5, Bennett confirmed that Netflix had chosen not to renew the show for additional episodes. He details the challenging road that the creative team went through to try and get this show made at all, expressing gratitude that they did get to produce a first season, which debuted on Max in October 2023.
Even though the series doesn't currently have a home, Bennett made it clear that everyone behind the show is dedicated to seeing it continue somehow.
"But this is not the end. There is more story to be told, we are ready to make another season..."

While it's unclear how or where the show would move forward, Bennett further proved his passion and enthusiasm for Scavengers Reign by sharing a teaser that he and his team produced in-house to provide fans with a taste of what would come next for the stranded Demeter crew.
Scavengers Rein follows a group of crash survivors from the ship Demeter 227 after they become stuck on the alien planet Vesta. Based on the teaser shared by Bennett, a second season would have seen a significant expansion of alien life on Vesta and continued the journey of the characters we became so attached to during the show's riveting first season.
The series was heavily praised and received critical acclaim throughout its brief but meaningful run, with many fans hailing it as a masterpiece. Scavengers Reign even received recognition at the 76th Primetime Creative Arts Emmy Awards, with a nomination in the competitive Outstanding Animated Program category, and the show won for Outstanding Background Design.
For the time being, Scavengers Reign is still available to stream on Netflix and Max.
