Production on the highly anticipated Scream 7 is currently underway in Atlanta, Georgia, and we've just learned that two more original Scream cast members will be returning. They’ll be joining Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox, two other OG cast members who were previously announced as part of the sequel's cast.
Now, there's something special about these two new castings. These actors didn't just have minor roles in the Scream movies they were in. They were revealed later in their respective films to be playing Ghostface killers! Want to take a stab at guessing which actors they are? It's Matthew Lillard and Scott Foley!
Lillard played the role of Stu Macher, one of the two Ghostface killers in Scream (1996). Stu was Billy Loomis's best friend, the other Ghostface killer, and together they carried out a series of murders in Woodsboro. At the end of the slasher, viewers are led to believe Stu dies after being stabbed multiple times and having a TV set fall on his head, electrocuting him. However, he just might be alive with Lillard coming back.
Details regarding Lillard's character in Scream 7 are being kept secret, so there's a possibility that he might not be returning as Stu. He could be playing an entirely new character. But whether he's reprising his role as Stu or stepping into a completely new character, we're looking forward to seeing him back on our screens. On Jan. 30, Lillard hinted at his return to the Scream franchise via a post on social media, which had fans buzzing with excitement.
In a short video shared on his Instagram page, Lillard can be seen writing on a piece of paper, "My mom and dad are gonna be so mad at me." Scream fans will know this is one of Stu's iconic lines, which he says while talking on the phone with Sidney. Could this mean Lillard is coming back to play Stu in the new film? We can't wait to find out!
Now, let's talk about the other Ghostface actor, Scott Foley, who's coming back for Scream 7. Foley starred as Roman Bridger, a movie director and the half-brother of Sidney Prescott, in Scream 3 (2000). Roman is later revealed as the Ghostface killer in the slasher and is seemingly killed by Dewey Riley, who shoots him in the head with a gun. This raises the question: If Roman is truly dead, who will Foley play in the new film? Could he be returning as a new character, or is there a twist in store that will somehow bring Roman back to life?
As with Lillard, details about Foley's character in the upcoming sequel are being kept confidential. So, we'll just have to wait and see what role he plays when Scream 7 finally hits theaters on Feb. 27, 2026.
Besides Campbell, Cox, Lillard, and Foley, the Scream 7 cast includes Mason Gooding, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Isabel May, Celeste O’Connor, Asa Germann, Mckenna Grace, Sam Rechner, Anna Camp, Joel McHale, and Mark Consuelos. The Scream franchise creator Kevin Williamson is signed on as director and uses a script written by Guy Busick. In addition, the plot is believed to center around Neve's Sidney character.
