Ready or Not was my favorite horror movie of 2019, it was a nearly perfect film. Samara Weaving headed the star-studded cast, and as usual, gave a gonzo performance as Grace, a new bride who has married into a family that acquired their wealth through their Le Domas Family Games company.

After the wedding, Grace sets down with the Le Domas family to participate in their somewhat odd tradition: at midnight on the wedding day, the new family member must draw a card from a special puzzle box, and everyone then plays whatever game is written on that card. Her new husband explains that a long-ago ancestor made a deal with someone named le Bail, who promised them that their fortune would remain as long as they observed this tradition.

Grace, still in her wedding gown, draws a card that reads “Hide and Seek”, and we see each of the family members react. As Grace runs off to hide, we discover the twist to this story. The Le Domas family are tasked with not only finding her, but killing her. If they fail to find Grace before dawn, they will all die themselves.

What follows is a fun, crazy violent, action-packed scenario, in which Grace is literally running (or hiding) for her life. As her gown gets ripped and stained, she gets tougher, and yes, we are treated to several of Weaving’s signature screams.

Searchlight recently announced that a sequel is in the works, and now as reported in Variety, that sequel will be released next year. Samara Weaving (The Babysitter)will be returning to the role of Grace, and she will be joined by Kathryn Newton (Abigail), Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy the Vampire Slayer), Shawn Hatosy (The Faculty), Nestor Carbonell (Bates Motel), Kevin Durand (Clown in a Cornfield), Elijah Wood (The Monkey), Olivia Cheng (The Stand) and David Cronenberg (Slasher). That’s a pretty strong cast with a lot of horror cred!

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come will open in theatres nationwide on April 10, 2026

In addition to the very exciting news that Samara Weaving is back for the sequel, it’s also a good sign that a large percentage of the original creative team are on board. Directors Tyler Gillet and Matt Bettinelli-Olpin are back, as are writers R. Christopher Murphy and Guy Busnick, Director of Photography Brett Jutkiewicz, Production Designer Andrew Stearn and costume designer Avery Plewes.

No word yet as to what the plotline may be, but I am eager to find out! 1428 Elm will keep our readers up to date as more news is released about Ready or Not 2: Here I Come.
