Halloween month is almost here, and Shudder has officially announced their Season of Screams schedule for October. Get ready for familiar titles, as well as plenty of original content that you won’t be able to watch anywhere else.
In honor of Shudder 10, the Season of Screams schedule is even bigger and better than before, so get ready to celebrate all things horror with Shudder. And remember, the celebration lasts for the rest of the year!
Films preceded by an asterisk and in bold face are those seen and recommended by the author.
October 1:
Revenge of the Ghoul Log – The perfect background for all of your Halloween events is the annual Ghoul Log, which this year was created by the Andujar Twins (Birth/Rebirth, I Know What You Did Last Summer).

Scanners – “A scientist trains a man with an advanced telepathic ability called “scanning” to stop a dangerous Scanner with extraordinary psychic powers from waging war against non-Scanners.”
The Brood – If you enjoy a good creepy kids flick, this one should be right up your alley. An institutionalized woman is subjected to some pretty odd therapy, and her husband tries to find out what’s going on…and if it might tie into some recent murders.
All Hallows’ Eve – This anthology featured the first appearance of Terrifier’s Art the Clown character. A babysitter comes across a VHS tape that includes three different terrifying stories, all linked by a creepy clown.
All Hallows’ Eve 2 – In this sequel, three new tales are discovered on a videotape left on a woman’s doorstep. Meanwhile, a pumpkin-faced killer searches for a new victim.
*Psycho – Must-see viewing for all horror fans, Alfred Hitchock’s masterpiece tells the story of Norman Bates, who runs a motel and loves his Mama. When a secretary (Janet Leigh) steals money for her boss, she takes off and ends up at the motel, where it doesn’t end well for her.
*Rear Window – Another Hitchcock piece, Rear Window introduces us to a bored photographer (James Stewart) who is forced to take it easy while his broken leg heals. As he watches his neighbors out of his window with binoculars, he thinks he sees a murder.
*The Birds – In one of Hitchcock’s best film, things get crazy when all of the birds begin to attack people in a California town. This was one of the first horror movies I can ever remember watching, and it definitely made an impact on me.
*Vertigo – Hitchcock tells another thrilling story, this one about a police detective (James Stewart again) who suffers from vertigo after the death of another policeman who falls from a roof during a chase.
REC – In this found footage classic, a reporter and her cameraman join emergency workers as they investigate mysterious occurrences in an apartment building. They end up on lockdown, with no lights or electricity, but they definitely are not alone.
REC 2 – Sequel alert! “In order to ascertain the current situation inside, a supposed medical officer and a GEO team step into the quarantined and ill-fated apartment building.”
REC 3: Genesis - A wedding day should be joyful, but that turns out to not be the case for a couple whose wedding guests start falling ill.
REC IV: Apocalypse – When a tv reporter is rescued, things go sour as a deadly virus strikes the ship she is being transported on.
*Wolf Creek – In this bleak, brutal film, backpackers visiting the Australian outback are stalked (and most are killed) by a serial killer.
Final Prayer (A/K/A The Borderlands) – When Vatican investigators set out to investigate a church experiencing unusual activity in a rural area, they end up with more than they bargained for.
*High Tension – In this French Extremity horror film, best buds Marie and Alexia head out to spend a college weekend break at Alex’s family’s house. That night, a sadistic killer breaks in and abducts Alex, forcing Marie to spring into action.

October 3:
V/H/S/Halloween (Shudder Original) – Most horror fans are familiar with the V/H/S franchise, and in the latest sequel, some Halloween-related video tapes feature six different stories, each with a different director.
October 6:
*When a Stranger Calls (original 1979 version) – A young woman who is babysitting (Carol Kaine) starts to receive phone calls imploring her to “check the children.” Obviously, it turns out that the calls are coming from inside the house. Seven years later, the man returns to torment her yet again.
Invader – Ana comes to a small town in the hopes of visiting her cousin Camila, but starts to believe that something horrible may have happened to her. Appetite for Deconstruction refers to Invader as “Excellent, but it’s also deeply, deeply unpleasant.” Count me in!
Crumb Catcher – A crazed inventor and his wife abduct a newlywed couple in a not-so-well thought out blackmail scheme.
October 7:
The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula: Titans season two (Shudder Original series) – Titans is back for its second season, welcoming 14 of the best drag artists from prior seasons of The Boulet Brothers’ Dragula. The competitors will complete in challenge designed to test their performance, design and makeup skills.
October 9:
Aliens Expanded – This documentary takes a deep dive into James Cameron’s Aliens, which was released in 1986.
Bloat – A family takes a vacation in Japan, and their young son very nearly drowns in a lake. Afterwards, he starts behaving strangely.
October 10:
Just Joe Bob – “Settle in with Joe Bob Briggs, Darcy, and a special guest as they discuss two tales of paranoia-fueled games of cat-and-mouse between psycho killers and their resourceful would-be prey.”
October 13:
Odd Thomas – Based on the novel by Dean Koontz, Odd Thomas stars Anton Yelchin as the title character, a short-order cook who has clairvoyant abilities.
The Limehouse Golem – In Victorian London, a serial killer has been leaving strange messages written in his victims’ blood. Scotland Yard inspector John Kildare is assigned to the case.

October 14:
Guts & Glory (Shudder Original series) – Originally scheduled to premiere in September, Greg Nicotero’s horror competition series is making its debut in October. Players are immersed in a “horror experience full of unexpected challenges.
October 15:
Etheria Film Night 2025- Back for another year is Etheria, a film showcase featuring new thriller, horror, comedy, science fiction, action and fantasy films helmed by female directors.
*The Guest – Dan Stevens stars in the title role as an American soldier who pays a visit to the Peterson family, claiming to be a close friend of their son, who died in Afghanistan. The family seems to accept him, but their daughter Anna (Maika Monroe) is suspicious…turns out, she is right.
October 17:
Other (Shudder Original) – When Alice finds out her mother has died, she returns to the home she grew up in. When she discovers the house is set up with surveillance, things get weird.
Hemlock Grove (seasons 1-3) – When a teenager is murdered in the small town of Hemlock Grove, it sets off a chain of dark events.
Jack-O – Linnea Quigley appears in this film, about what happens when a group of teens vandalize a grave on Halloween night. When they do so, it frees an entity known as Jack-O.
October 19:
2025 Fangoria Chainsaw Awards (Shudder Special) – Fangoria’s annual horror awards ceremony returns to Shudder with a plethora of horror royalty. Barbara Crampton and Josh Rubin host.
October 30:
Hell House LLC: Lineage (Shudder Original) – In the continuing saga of Hell House LLC, Vanessa is living in Abaddon, suffering from nightmares and visions. When people start to die mysteriously, she realizes there is some connection between herself, the Carmichael Manor and the Abaddon Hotel.
