Wow, time really flies! This year, our favorite go-to horror site, Shudder, will be celebrating its 10-year anniversary, and with that comes an exciting new change. Later this year, the streaming service is set to launch a brand-new ad-supported tier, giving horror fans an even more affordable way to access the thrilling content they've come to love.
Although an official launch date has yet to be announced, subscribers to the plan can look forward to a premium viewing experience with minimal interruptions, featuring a light commercial load that won’t disrupt their horror movie marathons. As of April 7, Shudder currently offers two ad-free subscription plans: a monthly membership priced at $8.99 per month (before taxes) and an annual membership at $89.99 per year (before taxes). While it's unclear at the moment what the ad-supported plan will cost, it's expected to be more affordable than the current ad-free options, making it an appealing choice for horror fans who want access to Shudder's vast library of content without breaking the bank.
There's a good chance the ad-supported version could be priced at $4.99 per month (before taxes) as that's how much this version cost when it first launched on AMC+. However, there's still no official confirmation on the exact pricing for Shudder's ad-supported tier.
The ad-supported subscription for Shudder was announced back in April 2024. It came after AMC Networks' previous decision to add ads to their main streaming service, AMC+, in late 2023. The introduction of this new plan aligns with AMC Networks' broader strategy to offer more cost-effective options across its streaming platforms. By adding a lighter commercial load to the experience, Shudder aims to cater to viewers who are looking for a budget-friendly way to enjoy their favorite horror movies and shows.
Some of the best movies to watch on Shudder are The Rule of Jenny Pen, Bloody Axe Wound, Dark Match, Grafted, Azrael, Starve Acre, Mads, Oddity, In a Violent Nature, Exhuma and Stop Motion. The streamer is also slated to release a new immersive horror competition series called Guts & Glory later this year. Created by Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead), the first season will consist of six episodes, and see a bunch of players thrown into an "immersive horror experience full of unexpected challenges."
Other than this series, we recommend checking out these horror shows already streaming on Shudder, such as The Creep Tapes, Chucky, Horror's Greatest and The Last Drive-in With Joe Bob Briggs.
Stay tuned to 1428 Elm for all things horror!
