Can you believe how close we are to Halloween already? It feels like October just started, and already we're about halfway through! But don't worry, there are still many horror movies and shows releasing to keep the spooky momentum running through the end of the month.

This week, the Smile sequel finally releases in theaters, along with the buzzy crime thriller Woman of the Hour landing on Netflix. For TV watchers, we've got Hysteria! on Peacock and new episodes of American Horror Stories on Hulu. Keep reading to see what you have to look forward to this week of October 14!

Smile 2 (Theaters, Oct. 18)

Parker Finn returns with his follow-up to the 2022 film, itself based on his short Laura Hasn't Slept. In the highly-anticipated sequel, Naomi Scott stars as global pop sensation Skye Riley. After witnessing a traumatic incident, Skye becomes the next person to be mercilessly stalked by the entity and must face her own dark past before things get out of control.

Woman of the Hour (Netflix, Oct. 18)

Anna Kendrick makes her directorial debut in this upcoming film about real-life serial killer Rodney Alcala, who infamously participated in the 1978 reality series The Dating Game. In addition to directing, Kendrick also stars as Cheryl Bradshaw, the woman who "won" a date with Rodney, unaware of the fact he'd murdered five women already at the time they met. Netflix acquired the film after it debuted at TIFF earlier this year.

Hysteria! (Peacock, Oct. 18)

Julie Bowen, Anna Camp, and Bruce Campbell are three reasons to watch this excellent and timely new horror series coming to Peacock this week. It's a unique take on the Satanic panic that plagued many small towns in the 1980s.

The series kicks off with a brutal opening sequence that sets up the main thrust of the series: someone, or something, is kidnapping people and murdering them. The "hysteria" in question begins when a star quarterback is killed. Sensing an opportunity to seek notoriety, a high school metal band decides to pretend they've tapped into Satanism to earn street cred, which ends up causing the town to turn on them when more strange things start happening.

MadS (Shudder, Oct. 18)

A horror film shot in one continuous take, MadS looks like an exciting and experimental new film that centers on a recent high school graduate experimenting with a new drug ahead of a night of partying. But from the moment he takes it, things spiral out of control and take increasingly surreal twists and turns.

American Horror Stories (Hulu, Oct. 15)

The popular American Horror Story off-shoot where every episode features a different cast and story (as opposed to every season), Hulu is debuting five new episodes this week for "Huluween." Stars featured in the latest batch include Victor Garber, Debby Ryan, Henry Winkler, and more.
