Wow! It's Valentine's Day already, and what better way to celebrate than by curling up with a thrilling horror movie that adds a little blood to all the romance? That's if you're not scared... But if you dare, we've got the perfect pick to make your Valentine's night both chilling and unforgettable!

While there are many Valentine-themed horror films out there, there's really only one that stands out as the ultimate choice. We're talking about a cult classic that has cemented its place in the hearts of horror fans everywhere. Have you guessed what movie it is yet? We'll give you one more hint. It was remade in 2009 as a 3D movie. Alright, I'm sure you got it already. It's the 1981 slasher My Bloody Valentine, aka the best Valentine's Day horror film of all time. Yep, I said it!

If you're a true horror fan, you've probably watched this movie at least once, but if not, now's the perfect time to experience this bloody masterpiece. Directed by George Mihalka and written by John Beaird, the slasher takes place in a small mining town called Valentine Bluffs. The town carries a dark past, marked by a tragic mining accident 20 years earlier that trapped a group of workers underground. This occurred on the same day as the town's annual Valentine's Day dance. In the end, only one miner emerged alive, deeply scarred by the ordeal. A year after his rescue, the miner went on a killing spree, seeking revenge on those he held responsible for the disaster.

He was eventually caught and thrown into an insane asylum, and the town moved on. But the Valentine's Day dance was never held again. That's until many years later. The mayor reinstates the dance, only to have to cancel it again after a resident is found murdered. However, that doesn't stop a bunch of young adults from throwing a Valentine's Day party of their own in the same mine where the previous murders occurred. But what was supposed to be a fun time turns into a nightmare when a masked figure wielding a deadly pickaxe starts picking off the partygoers one by one. Could the miner have escaped the mental institution, or could it be a copycat killer?

The movie's cast includes Paul Kelman, Lori Hallier, Neil Affleck, Cynthia Dale, Don Francks, Keith Knight, Alf Humphreys, Peter Cowper, and many others. It can be streamed for free on Pluto TV or watched on Shudder or AMC+ with a subscription. You also have the option to rent or purchase the film on digital platforms.

There are always talks about the best slasher villains, such as Michael Myers, Freddy Krueger, Jason Voorhees, Ghostface, Leatherface, etc. But you know what fictional horror villain doesn't usually get brought up? The Miner from My Bloody Valentine. Look, I get it. The other slasher villains just mentioned had multiple movies, but The Miner still deserves more recognition. He's often overlooked in those conversations, and that's a shame.
