Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried lead Lionsgate's adaptation of The Housemaid

The New York Times bestselling thriller novel The Housemaid by Freida McFadden is finally getting a film adaptation, and two amazingly talented actresses are set to star. A well-known filmmaker is also attached to the project to direct.

Lionsgate is behind this upcoming thriller. The entertainment company has reportedly finalized an agreement for Emmy Award-nominated actress Sydney Sweeney to star in the film. The company is also reportedly in the last stages of negotiations for Golden Globe Award-winning actress Amanda Seyfried to join the cast as another lead.

Sweeney is best known for starring as Cassie Howard in the hit HBO teen drama series Euphoria. She's also known for her roles in other shows such as The Handmaid's Tale, Sharp Objects, Everything Sucks! and The White Lotus. Her most recent acting gigs were starring in the rom-com Anyone but You, the superhero film Madame Web and the horror flick Immaculate.

Seyfried, on the other hand, is best known for previously starring as Karen Smith in the popular teen comedy Mean Girls. You might've also watched her in the movies Mamma Mia!, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, Jennifer's Body, Dear John, Letters to Juliet, Les Misérables, Mank and Things Heard & Seen. She also had roles in the TV shows The Dropout and The Crowded Room.

Emmy-nominated filmmaker Paul Feig (Ghostbusters, A Simple Favor) is signed on to helm The Housemaid film adaptation, with Rebecca Sonnenshine (Archive 81) writing the script. In addition, Hidden Pictures’ Todd Lieberman will produce, along with Feig and Laura Fischer. Executive producers of the movie include Sweeney, Seyfried, McFadden, and Alex Young.

The film follows a young woman named Millie who is in need of a fresh start after experiencing a series of unfortunate events in her life. One day, she finally sees a light at the end of the tunnel when she lands a job working as a housemaid for a wealthy couple, Nina and Andrew. However, as she begins to settle into her new role, she quickly discovers that the seemingly perfect family hides dark secrets and a twisted dynamic.

Sweeney will play Millie, while Seyfried will portray Nina. It's unknown at the moment who will play Andrew since an actor hasn't been cast yet in the role. Don't worry! As new cast additions are announced, we'll come back and let you know right away.
