The year is almost over, and we're looking forward to all the new horror content slated to be released in 2025. One of the horror movies set to come out next year is the highly anticipated M3GAN 2.0, and Universal has just released two new first-look images to get horror fans pumped up for its upcoming release. We shared them below via The Hollywood Handle X account.
M3GAN 2.0 serves as a sequel to the smash-hit sci-fi horror flick M3GAN (2023). While plot details are being kept under wraps, what we do know is that the killer AI-powered, lifelike doll will make its return, and we can only imagine what trouble she'll bring.
Gerard Johnstone, who directed the first film, signed on to helm the sequel. Akela Cooper wrote the script. She also wrote the screenplay for the first movie. In addition, Blumhouse Productions and Atomic Monster are back to produce the film alongside Divide/Conquer.
Allison Williams and Violet McGraw will reprise their roles as Gemma and Cady from the first movie in the sequel. Amie Donald returns as M3GAN, and Jenna Davis as the voice of M3GAN. Other returning cast members are Brian Jordan Alvarez (Cole) and Jen Van Epps (Tess). Joining the cast for M3GAN 2.0 in new roles are talented actors such as Ivanna Sakhno, Timm Sharp, Aristotle Athari, and Jemaine Clement.
The cameras officially stopped rolling in October 2024, so now the new horror film is in the post-production phase, where it will spend a good amount of time being edited to perfection before making its way to theaters. M3GAN 2.0 is confirmed to hit the big screen in the United States on June 27, 2025. Like with M3GAN, the sequel will be distributed by Universal Pictures.
Johnstone spoke with Entertainment Weekly in December 2024 and had this to say about the upcoming sequel. He said, "It is very ambitious. I felt that the story should be bigger and increase in scale and scope, but it's still a minuscule budget the Marvel movie scale."
Johnstone also shared that M3GAN will receive some new looks compared to how we saw her in the first film. He told EW, "She's a living doll, and part of the fun of having a doll is being able to play dress-up. We had a couple of looks in the first film, but I wanted 10 different looks for M3GAN. For the sequel, I felt like here's a chance to do that.”
An official trailer will drop once we get closer to the release date. Of course, we'll return to share it with you right away. So, stay tuned to 1428 Elm for any new information on M3GAN 2.0.
