There are only a handful of horror offerings this Thanksgiving week. The good news is that December has several exciting movies releasing theatrically, including Robert Eggers' Nosferatu, the A24 slasher Y2K, and Amy Adams-led Nightbitch.
But there are still a couple of new movies this week for those who want to try something new, including an indie film about an evil Greek demon and the digital release of Terrifier 3. True crime fans might want to revisit the JonBenét Ramsey case alongside Netflix with the streamer's new Joe Berlinger-directed documentary series.
Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey (Netflix, Nov. 25)
With its upcoming documentary series Cold Case: Who Killed JonBenét Ramsey, Netflix is reexamining one of history's most well-known actual crime cases. Six-year-old JonBenét was tragically murdered in 1996, her body discovered in their Colorado home by her father, John Ramsey.
More than 28 years since people are still struggling to piece together what happened to JonBenét and bring her killer to justice, but the case remains unsolved. For this docuseries, Netflix is collaborating with Joe Berlinger (Conversations with a Killer) again. All episodes will be released simultaneously.
Terrifier 3 (VOD, Nov. 26)
Beginning this Tuesday, you'll be able to rent or purchase a digital copy of Terrifier 3, the third movie in Damien Leone's slasher franchise led by brutal killer Art the Clown (David Howard Thornton). Physical collectors will need to wait until December 17 to get their hands on the 4K UHD, Blu-ray, DVD, and collector's edition versions.
Considered the goriest movie of the trilogy, Terrifier 3 is a Christmas horror film that pits Art against the series' final girl, Sienna Shaw (Lauren LaVera), once again.
Its Name Was Mormo (VOD, Nov. 26)
Its Name Was Mormo is an exciting and unique docufiction film blending reality and fiction to create a compelling story told via police evidence. A family is haunted by an ancient demon from Greek folklore, targeting each member individually.
The story began as a way to film a family settling into a new home, but strange things started happening off-camera, and production wove it into the film. Dread Central published an excellent write-up explaining in depth what the film is about and quoting the filmmakers.
All the Lost Ones (Theaters - Canada only, Nov. 29)
Devon Sawa (Chucky, Final Destination) stars in this sci-fi film from director Mackenzie Donaldson. All the Lost Ones is set in a post-apocalyptic world ravaged by a civil war in North America, started by the rapid onset of climate change. Toronto-based distributor levelFILM shared an Instagram post recently announcing the release date for the film. For now, the movie will only be released theatrically in Canada, but keep an eye out for its eventual VOD release.
