Spoilers ahead for The Bondsman episode 6, "Revelations"
Coming up on the final episodes of the season, The Bondsman finally reveals to us why he went to Hell. Lucky takes Hub hostage, handcuffing him and beating him bloody. He intends to torture Hub until he admits, on video, what happened the night that Cheryl Dawson died.
Lucky knows that he's not good enough for Maryanne and that he royally screwed up by killing Hub, but he at least wants her to know that Hub isn't any better than him. And that he tried to kill Lucky first, setting off this whole chain of events.
The episode skips back in time to the night Cheryl died. Hub had been hanging out at The Boxcar, chatting with Cheryl, a bartender. Back then, Lucky didn't hate Hub, at least not yet. He tries to have a heart-to-heart with Hub at the bar, but Hub isn't having it. Given Lucky's criminal history, Hub doesn't want Lucky near his ex-wife and son. Things get heated, and Hub throws a punch. Lucky warns him that he's crossed a line and will not let this one slide. His security tosses Hub out.
Later that night, Hub returns to the bar, intent on killing Lucky before he can come for him. He sees someone in the back wearing Lucky's signature cowboy hat and assumes it's him. He shoots. But the person in the back isn't Lucky, it's Cheryl. After Hub punched Lucky, his hat flew off, and he left it at the bar. Cheryl, who has a bit of a crush on Lucky, must have picked it up and put it on. So, Hub mistakenly shoots and kills Cheryl instead of Lucky.
In the present, that's what Lucky is trying to force Hub to admit by breaking his fingers with a hammer. But before that can happen, the two Slypharis demons from the previous episode break in, and Lucky finds himself in a devilish fight. The demons beat him up while Hub manages to break himself out of captivity. He grabs a shotgun (and then a chainsaw) and kills both demons while Lucky escapes in a panic.
While Hub is being held captive, Kitty becomes terrified that something has happened to her son. She drives to the bridge and discovers the accident wreckage and then hears a call from the police that a body has been found. Driving to the crime scene in the hopes it's not Hub, we see that the body in question is the woman the two demons had been intending to sacrifice. Sheriff Ruby grows suspicious of the Hallorans, questioning Kitty about why she's there.
The sheriff also contacts Maryanne in Nashville, where she's re-recording one of her and Hub's songs with Cade. She asked if Maryanne had visited the hardware store recently and if she had seen Hub there. Maryanne lies, covering for her ex. But the sheriff already has a security photo showing Maryanne and Hub exiting the shop. Now they know that Maryanne is in on whatever is happening with Hub.
But Maryanne suspects the sheriff might be getting suspicious during their phone call, so she and Cade return to town to warn Hub, who Kitty is patching up after finishing off the demons. He's not happy they've returned amid all the danger, especially because Maryanne has now told Cade all about the demons. But they're stubborn and determined not to abandon him. He takes them to see the dead bodies of his latest demonic kills so they can see exactly what they're up against.
