The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep may sound like the title of an upcoming slasher flick, but it is instead an upcoming true crime docu-series from Sundance TV. The series will consist of three episodes, and will air in June.
The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep is the true story of the shocking murder of Florida wife and mom Marlene Warren, who was shot and killed at her front door. Her killer was dressed as a clown, and was carrying flowers and balloons. The murder happened in 1990, and Marlene’s son Joe was actually present when she was killed.
As is usually the case, Malene’s husband Michael Warren was almost immediately considered a suspect, especially when rumors of Michael’s infidelity began to emerge. Those in the know also claimed that the Warren’s marriage was not a happy one, and that Marlene had told those close to her that if anything should happen to her, Michael was the one who did it.
But when investigators began looking into the case, it turned out that Michael had a verifiable alibi. His alleged mistress Sheila Keen was a strong suspect, but with no solid evidence and no other suspects, the case went cold until 2023, when a lead was established that linked Sheila to the purchase of a clown costume. At that time, she was finally arrested.
Michael had spent three years in prison for racketeering, grand theft and tampering with odometers in cars sold as his dealership. His sentence started in the late 1990s, and after he was released, he and Sheila were married. So, the “alleged” mistress was now an actual Mrs.
The prosecutor’s case centered around some new fiber and DNA evidence, which the defense tried to have thrown out, but shortly before her trial was to begin, Sheila made a plea deal that would lead to shocking results…results that Marlene’s family members were very unhappy about.
The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep will include interviews with those closest to the case, including Marlene’s son Joe, investigators and the prosecuting and defense attorneys, along with friends and family members.
The Killer Clown: Murder on the Doorstep will premiere on Thursday, June 5
Episode one airs on June 5 at 10:00 p.m. ET on Sundance TV, followed by episodes two and three on June 12 and 19. You can also binge the entire season on Sundance Now and AMC+ as of June 5.
