Spoilers ahead for The Parenting

The Parenting is the latest Max Original movie, a comedy-horror film that mixes the stress of two families meeting with a demon possession. Josh and Rohan are excited to spend a weekend at a cozy rental with their parents, but things get off to a rocky start. Josh doesn't make the best impression on Rohan's parents and things only get worse when mysterious incidents begin happening in the house.

Once Rohan's dad, Frank, becomes possessed, that's when all hell breaks loose. A snowstorm keeps everyone captive inside as they try to figure out what to do about the demon in their midst, while also trying to plan an escape. Here's how it all goes down in the end.

Andras the demonic infestation

Who is the demon in the house and what caused it to take over Frank's body? We find out that the house's owner, Brenda, orchestrated the entire evening to ensure Andras could get a new human vessel. With the Worm Moon risen, now is the only time that the ritual will work.

Via flashback, we learn that Brenda was in Allie's room at the beginning of the movie. Allie and Brenda summoned a demon to scare Allie's mom and her brother, but the demon obviously went much further than Allie was expecting, killing them both. Allie gets freaked out and steps outside of the protective circle, which is why the demon kills her, too.

Since then, Brenda has been serving Andras as one of his minions and trying to help him find a new host. She had hoped he would possess either Josh or Rohan, since they're younger. The group defeats Andras by taking advantage of his desire for a host. Rohan offers himself to the demon, instructing Josh to shoot him once it takes over. But when Josh realizes what he's doing, he intervenes and tells the demon to take him instead.

Realizing what his son is up to, Cliff steps in to do the same, followed by Liddy and Sara, and then Sharon. They form their own circle with all of them repeating the Wi-Fi password (which happens to be the demonic incantation that set everything in motion) to confuse the heck out of Andras. That leads to the creature manifesting in full and Frank delivers the final blow by stepping on its neck and decapitating it, ending the demon's reign for good.

Rohan and Josh plan a happy future together

Despite their fighting and all the chaos of the weekend, Josh and Rohan do ultimately end up getting engaged. Earlier in the movie, an angry Rohan throws the wedding ring into the snow, but after Andras makes the snow disappear, Josh finds it and he uses it to propose to Rohan instead. It's a sweet moment that highlights Rohan's growth as he lets Josh have this moment instead of needing to be in control all the time.

All of the parents are happy, too, with Sharon having come around to liking Josh after he saved her. There is also a tender moment between father and son when Brian apologizes to Rohan and makes sure his son knows how much he's loved and adored. Even though he didn't mean what he said while possessed, Frank wants to ensure Rohan has no doubt in his mind about his father's love for him, especially since Andras said a bunch of homophobic stuff while in his body.

Quick post-credits scene

The Parenting does have a post-credits scene, but just a quick one. In a scene mirroring the film's opening, we see Rohan and Josh driving away from the house and thinking back on the horrors they've faced. They wonder aloud why Andras manifested in the shape of a crow-like being.

Andras is considered the Marquis of Hell, and in demonology, often depicted as an owl or another type of bird. Since the film directly references the occult multiple times, we can assume that's the reason Andras looked the way he did when he finally became corporeal. There's also a funny moment at the end where Rohan laments the horror of seeing his dad walking around naked.
