Spoilers ahead for The Snow Girl season 2

The Snow Girl season 2 comes to a dramatic finish with its heart-pounding season finale that finally reveals the truth about what happened to Laura after she disappeared all of those years ago, and about who killed Allison. The ending also sets up a potentially exciting third season, should Netflix opt to renew the Spanish thriller series.

For starters, the penultimate episode heavily suggested that the Los Arcos principal Andrés Garrido may have murdered Allison. Allison's grandmother discovered her granddaughter's blood-stained Bible in Garrido's flat while doing her janitorial duties and reported it to the police. But Garrido remains adamant that he's been framed and had nothing to do with Allison's death.

He later tells Jaime the truth, that yes he did invent the Soul Game during his time at the school as a student along with Alberto Mendoza, but he hasn't played it in 40 years and has no knowledge of anyone else doing it now. Despite Garrido definitely acting suspicious and likely having some skeletons in his closet, he is telling the truth in this instance. He didn't kill Allison.

Who killed Allison and orchestrated the Soul Game?

The final two episodes of the season reveal that Laura's brother, Nacho, the one who has been "helping" Miren throughout this entire season, was the real culprit all along. Nacho started up the Soul Game again as a way to "cleanse" certain people, like Allison. Miren becomes his latest victim after he and his partner, Borja Pineda, kidnap her and tie her up just like they did to Allison. They force Miren to participate in the "final" test of the Soul Game, leaving her chained to a wall for at least a day until she's on the brink of death.

But unlike with Allison, Nacho doesn't intend to kill Miren. He's obsessed with her, something that became apparent in the previous episode when he kissed her. Nacho has read Miren's book over and over again, believing he knows everything about her. He holds Miren responsible for never finding out what happened to Laura since she told him that she would when he was a kid. Nacho is the one who sent that photograph to Miren at the beginning of the season and the picture wasn't even of Laura, just some random girl. He's been playing her all along.

In another shocking revelation, Nacho even shows Miren video evidence of him and Borja planning to murder Eduardo. They gave him an overdose of insulin, leading to his death. Miren is devastated to learn this, especially since Nacho did it because he wanted Miren to feel the same pain he did at losing his sister. But Borja does eventually become too scared to keep playing along with Nacho and tries to quit. Nacho can't have that so he murders his friend.

What happened to Laura?

As for Laura, what happened to her is different than one might expect. It turns out that Laura was secretly having an affair with her boyfriend's father, Alberto Mendoza. Alberto got her pregnant and then helped her disappear, taking her away to one of his private properties, a place called the Green House.

Jaime learns about the Green House from Tomás and shows up in search of Laura's remains, believing that Alberto likely murdered her. He contacts Julio Román to tell him his theory since he knows Julio didn't investigate properly.

Well, Jaime runs headfirst into trouble, with Alberto's property manager contacting him and them both threatening Jaime. Alberto points a shotgun at Jaime's head, condemning him for poking around and refusing to drop the investigation. But then the police show up just as Alberto is considering pulling the trigger so he turns the shotgun on himself and commits suicide instead.

Just as they're leaving the property, Jaime notices another smaller house nearby and sees a generator running. Inside, Jaime and Julio find a fully-grown Laura with her son. It turns out that Alberto set her up out there, and that's where she's been living secretly all along. She never contacted her aunt, uncle, or brother because she knew her family wouldn't approve and didn't want to cause trouble for them.

What happens to Miren?

Miren barely escapes from Nacho with her life. He chases her and tackles her onto a beach nearby the property where he had her tied up and even stabs her a few times. But Miren manages to hit him and then stab him to death with his own knife. Belén and Chaparro track Borja's phone to the area and find Miren and Nacho's body.

The show then skips one year ahead. Laura is visiting with Jaime at Nacho's gravesite. She wishes she could get in touch with Miren since she blames herself for everything that happened to her as Nacho was her brother. But Jaime says he doesn't know where Miren is. She quit the newspaper and hasn't been seen since, with people on social media even trending #WhereIsMiren?" Although the look he gives Miren's empty desk implies he might know where she is, he's not telling anyone.

Then, in the final moments of the season, we see a SWAT team break into a house and open a secret room containing tons of videos from the illegal pornography website the Slide. One of the tapes is the recording of Miren's assault, suggesting that if The Snow Girl returns for season 3, it will be about taking down Slide and finally finding her rapists.

All episodes of The Snow Girl are now streaming on Netflix.
