“Nobody special…Just some dude with A MOP!” That’s how the 2025 version of the Toxic Avenger describes himself in the new teaser trailer for the upcoming Peter Dinklage reboot. The second teaser trailer expands on the first, providing fans with plot details and even more wild action.

The Toxic Avenger’s second teaser trailer gives fans a taste of what to expect from the long-awaited, wild reboot, which has sat on a shelf since 2023. Legendary Pictures had difficulty securing a distributor due to the film's over-the-top gore until Cineverse stepped in to save the day by picking up the film for distribution, with support from Iconic Events Releasing. Hopefully, no one will get toxically cold feet before the scheduled August 29, 2025,  release. The production team owes the Terrifier franchise some thanks for reviving unrated splatterfests in theaters again.

The wild NSFW teaser revels in sophomoric double-entendre humor. The opening hints at the Toxic Avenger’s origin - a janitor named Winston Gooze (Dinklage) searches for a cure for a terminal medical condition after his insurance denies him, and the wealthy bosses he works for brush him off. The teaser suggests Gooze went down the experimental cure rabbit hole, leaving him looking a little green and bestowing him with toxic superpowers.

The expanded new trailer shifts the action to Gooze’s presumed place of employment: a fast-food restaurant that serves up bad puns alongside greasy, fried food. The tone shifts when a hold-up crew tries to rob the sleazy fast-food joint, until the Toxic Avenger shows up and brings back the “V-rating for Violence” by swinging a toxic green-glowing mop to liberate a crook from his jaw. Who says a reboot can’t recapture the spirit of the original?

A top star tackles a toxic role

Troma produced four Toxic Avenger films, with the last entry hitting home entertainment in 2000. The Legendary Pictures reboot has something that the past four entries lacked: star power. Clips of Dinklage as Toxie appear prominently in the teaser, capturing the green aesthetics of the original film. The “dude with a mop” line shows his enthusiasm for the previously low-budget (and lowbrow) character.

Will the series launch a new series of green-glowing sequels? If the new film does well at the box office, expect to see the Toxic Avenger swinging his radioactive mop in future adventures. The gory, hilarious, and offbeat trailer helps the cause.
