We don’t actually see Duane, Morgan’s son, die on this series. However, he plays a very important role in the pilot episode of the show, so mentioning his death still seems appropriate. Of course, Duane has already been dead for some time by the time Rick meets Morgan again, though their meeting confirms it.

When Rick makes his way into Morgan’s hideout, he takes notice of all the strange writing on the walls. One particular message sticks out: “Duane turned.” As in, Morgan’s son Duane had apparently passed and turned into a walker.

Later, Morgan describes how Duane died. While briefly separated, Duane saw the walker that used to be his mother. He froze, and the walker apparently devoured him before Morgan could save him. This drove Morgan insane, resulting in why he’s so out of his mind when Rick sees him again.
