While remakes can be hit or miss, we're hoping the remake of this fan-favorite sci-fi horror will both honor the original and bring a fresh twist to the story. What horror classic is getting remade? Well, it'll be the 1998 sci-fi horror flick The Faculty, which starred talented actors such as Josh Hartnett, Jordana Brewster, Clea DuVall, Laura Harris, Salma Hayek, Famke Janssen, Shawn Hatosy, Christopher McDonald, and Elijah Wood. This movie was also a box-office hit, drawing audiences in with its mix of teen drama, sci-fi thrills, and horror elements.
The original film followed a group of teenagers banding together to stop an alien invasion at their high school. After discovering that alien parasites have taken over their teachers and fellow peers, the uninfected students work together to put a stop to the alien threat. Robert Rodriguez (From Dusk till Dawn) directed the movie using a script written by Scream creator Kevin Williamson. In addition, Miramax Films distributed the film, which was released in theaters in December 1998.
Now, Miramax Films is looking to bring some of that '90s magic back with their new remake of the sci-fi horror. Rodriguez is on board to produce, while Drew Hancock is signed on to pen the remake's screenplay. You might recognize Hancock from his upcoming horror film Companion, which is set to hit theaters this Friday. As of now, neither a director nor any actors have been attached to this remake. However, it would be great if some of the original cast members made cameos.
After making his return to the horror genre with the 2024 horror thriller Trap, it looks like Josh Hartnett would be an ideal candidate. One can only hope!
