Warner Bros. has shared a new trailer for the highly-anticipated period vampire film Sinners starring Michael B. Jordan in dual roles as twin brothers Smoke and Stack, directed by Ryan Coogler, who has worked with Jordan multiple times now on acclaimed films like Black Panther and Creed.
The latest trailer teases what we can expect from the movie, which takes place in Mississippi in the early 1900s, at the height of the Prohibition Era. During a separate trailer breakdown video shared by Entertainment Weekly, Coogler and Jordan break down the trailer, offering additional insight into what audiences can anticipate.
Coogler mentions the Volstead Act, which made it illegal to produce or distribute alcohol in 1919. We know that Sinners will feature vampires, as it is a horror movie, but it also sounds like it will explore the twins' hometown and what life is like living there during this challenging era. Jordan's characters, Stack and Smoke, are very different, with the director praising the actor for his "beautiful performance." They also joke that you can tell the twins apart by the color scheme. Stack in red and Smoke in blue.
But there are many colorful characters brought to life by this talented cast, including hometown hero Delta Slim, played by Delroy Lindo, and everyman Corn Bread (Omar Benson Miller). Hailee Steinfeld also stars, with the trailer revealing that her character is one of the vampires, seemingly allied with Remmick, Jack O'Connell's terrifying antagonist. Wunmi Mosaku (Lovecraft Country, Loki) and Jayme Lawson (The Penguin) also star.
Interestingly, in the trailer breakdown video, Coogler also reveals that the entire film takes place over the course of one day. The story hinges on the twins returning to their hometown in search of a fresh start, only to discover that the town now harbors a greater evil. The end of the trailer also appears to spoil that one of the twins might be transformed into a vampire, and that would go along with what Coogler and Jordan say about how the twins, who are inseparable, finding their relationship tested.
The film's main poster shows Jordan as both of his characters, one fittingly cast in a red hue and the other in blue, with the blazing sun between them. The tagline invites us all to "dance with the devil."
Sinners will be released exclusively in theaters on April 18.
