Tubi is a drastically underappreciated streaming service.

In an age full of overpriced platforms whose primary goals seem to be to extort viewers in increasingly garish ways, Tubi stands as a delightful antidote. The streamer is completely free to all viewers with zero subscription fees or paid tiers. Instead, much like old-school cable options, the team at Tubi foots the bill by incorporating commercials and advertisements into their streaming content.

While ads may not be ideal for some, it’s worth noting that Tubi does seem to go out of its way to place these ad breaks at the most fitting of places if they are interrupting programming and often doesn’t even interrupt the program at all, instead just hitting you with a bulk of ads up top to allow you to watch in an uninterrupted fashion.

So the news that Tubi is now launching a new hub within the platform called “Terror on Tubi” is undeniably great news.

While the timing for the unveiling of this new hub is undoubtedly meant to capitalize on the impending spooky season and the uptick in interest in horror films that comes with that for much of the general population, Terror on Tubi is much more than a simple festive overlay. Rather, the recently launched hub will be a permanent addition to the streamer, allowing viewers to more readily and accessibly navigate its catalogue of horror media, from films to shows and beyond.

Tubi has long been a safe haven for horror hounds, as the streamer is much more invested in carrying oddities and niche genre favorites than other streaming platforms. It’s often rare to find a film that predates the ‘90s on Netflix. Conversely, Tubi will have obscure B-movies from the ‘50s readily available for you, as well as a host of new material as well.

All of this is indicative of a change in Tubi’s approach to its own content. The streamer has clearly realized the vast potential of tapping into its horror-hungry audience recently, as the Terror on Tubi hub also coincides with its recent teaming with The Black List for a horror initiative, in which the streamer accepted screenwriting submissions to consider for new original horror productions.

For horror fans and creatives alike, all of this is great news, as Tubi continues to show off just how boundless the possibilities are when a streaming platform is run by genuinely passionate people, rather than corporate stooges. The lovely folks at Tubi are looking to create a compelling and engaging experience for viewers, one in which they can watch their favorite horror media and have it feel like a bona fide experience rather than second-screen entertainment. And for that, I cannot applaud them enough.
