After a successful theatrical run, ultimately grossing $371 million worldwide, Twisters will finally make its streaming debut. The film is slated to be released on Peacock this November. The exact release date is Friday, Nov. 15, 2024.

Twisters was helmed by Lee Isaac Chung (Minari) from a screenplay written by Mark L. Smith (The Marsh King's Daughter, The Revenant). In addition, Smith wrote the script based on a story by Joseph Kosinski (Top Gun: Maverick, Tron: Legacy).

Twisters is a disaster film serving as a standalone sequel to the 1996 classic Twister, which starred Helen Hunt, Bill Paxton, Jami Gertz, and Cary Elwes. It follows former storm chaser Kate Carter, who finds herself lured back into the field of storm chasing when her friend, Javi, reaches out and asks her if she wants to help out with testing a new tornado tracking system.

She, Javi, and their team travel to Oklahoma and eventually meet popular social media star Tyler Owens and his team of storm chasers, who are also there to investigate a tornado outbreak. But as storm season intensifies, the two clashing rival groups find themselves having to team up to survive.

Two-time Golden Globe nominee Daisy Edgar-Jones, who is best known for her role as Catherine "Kya" Clark in the mystery drama film Where the Crawdads Sing, stars in the leading role of Kate Carter. Joining her in the cast as Javi is Emmy-nominated actor Anthony Ramos and Glen Powell as Tyler Owens.

One of Ramos' most recent projects besides Twisters was the action film Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Powell starred in the rom-com Anyone but You with Sydney Sweeney and in the other romantic comedy Hit Man with Adria Arjona.

This is what some critics had to say about the disaster film via Rotten Tomatoes:

"The reason to see Twisters is to feel the same emotions one enjoys on a roller coaster ride. Its visual effects are vivid and spectacular and there is some catharsis in watching ordinary people behave in extraordinary ways when disaster strikes."

Leonard Maltin

"It’s loaded with fun and sometimes funny set pieces and enough danger to keep you on your toes."

Alissa Wilkinson
