Last Words: “Are y’all gonna watch, too? No, you’ll go hide your heads in your tents and try to forget that we’re slaughtering a human being. I won’t be a party to it. This group is broken.”

After the shoot-out at the bar, one of the assailants, Randall, impaled his leg on a fence. Rick refused to leave him there to die, bringing him back to the farm. This creates a moral dilemma for the survivors. Randall can’t be trusted, so Shane insists on executing him. Dale, meanwhile, says that doing so would make them no better than the walkers. Rick is caught in the middle, not knowing which answer is the right one.

Eventually, the group decides upon killing Randall, despite Dale’s pleas. Realizing he’s losing the battle, Dale gives up on the group. It truly disgusts him that killing people is becoming a normalcy in their new lives. He suggests that if this is how the world is now, he doesn’t want to live there anymore.

Dale gets his wish soon enough. A walker led back to the farm by a wandering Carl finds Dale in the field outside, after Dale went off to be alone. The zombie tackles him, ripping open his stomach in the process. There is no saving Dale by the time the others get to him, so Daryl puts him down with a bullet through the head.
