Heart Eyes was released in theaters in early February, and it's still making waves among horror fans. While the movie is great overall, what's mostly being talked about is its brutally unforgettable kill scenes. It definitely lives up to its slasher genre with there being no shortage of blood, gore, and creative deaths.
From the very beginning of the film, audiences are thrust into a blood-soaked nightmare that sets the tone for what’s to come. The slasher follows a serial killer known as Heart Eyes, who has spent the last two years traveling from town to town, murdering any couple they encounter on Valentine's Day. When Heart Eyes arrives in Seattle, the killing spree begins immediately. Their first victims are a couple on the verge of an engagement, who meet a horrific fate in a savage and unanticipated attack. From there, Heart Eyes only escalates their violence, targeting more couples as the city descends into panic.
While the rest of the kills in Heart Eyes are just as brutal and disturbing, it’s the opening sequence that truly sets the bar. In just the first 10 minutes, we witness a kill so graphic and shocking that you're left speechless, the shock of it lingering long after the scene ends.

So, here's how everything plays out. You have a couple standing outside in front of a beautiful set-up of flowers and other romantic decorations. The man is getting ready to propose to his girlfriend, and even after a slight mess up, the proposal goes smoothly. Well, not really. A hired photographer nearby calls the man and tells him he was unable to get the footage of the proposal and they have to do it again. But just as the photographer gets ready to start filming, the Heart Eyes killer arrives and slices a knife through his eye. That’s not the kill we’re talking about, though. Keep following along!
After proposing again, the man is struck in the head with an arrow. Horrified, the woman takes off running, with Heart Eyes close behind. After several near escapes—and an arrow to the foot—she stumbles upon a winery, believing she's finally safe. But she’s wrong. As she rushes inside, she encounters a cop, only for Heart Eyes to step through the door and hurl a knife straight into his head, killing him instantly. While the killer retrieves their blade from the officer’s lifeless body, the woman frantically hides inside a winepress.
Heart Eyes, the relentless killer they are, eventually tracks down the woman and tries to pull her from the winepress but fails. Undeterred, they find the controls and switch the machine on, watching as panic sets in. As the press begins to close in, the woman struggles desperately. But it's no use. In an instant, she's crushed into a bloody pulp, her remains splattering in every direction. The most disturbing part? Watching her eyes bulge before violently popping from her skull. That image is still burned into my mind, even weeks after seeing the film!

Heart Eyes is now available to rent or buy on digital platforms like Prime Video, Fandango at Home, Apple TV, or Google Play. It’s also still showing in theaters. After watching this slasher, you should definitely check out The Monkey next which features some pretty gruesome kills as well. You’ll have to head to the theater for that one, though.
