Final Destination: Bloodlines finally has a release date! Warner Bros. has dated the film for May 16, 2025, after years of back-and-forth during the development process. By the time the sixth film in the franchise is released in theaters, it will have been 14 years since we last saw a Final Destination movie.

The last film in the series, Final Destination 5, was released in August 2011. Final Destination 5 was better received than the fourth entry, with some people feeling it was one of the best in the franchise. Plans for a sixth film were made shortly after, but things hit a development snag amid the COVID-19 pandemic. After that, it seemed like Warner Bros. wasn't entirely sure what to do with the franchise. At one point, it was going to be distributed by its Max streaming service.

But everything is finally back on track, and the popular New Line Cinema film series will continue in May 2025 after over a decade. Plot details have not been shared for this film yet, but given that the movie's subtitle is "Bloodlines," many online sleuths theorize that the sixth movie will focus on descendants of previous characters. Perhaps the curse is hereditary now.

Final Destination: Bloodlines stars Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Brec Bassinger, Max Lloyd Jones, Owen Patrick Joyner, Kaitlyn Santa Juana, Rya Kihlstedt, Gabrielle Rose, Anna Lore, Tinpo Lee, April Amber Telek, and Alex Zahara.

The film will be directed by Adam B. Stein and Zach Lipovsky, with a screenplay by Scream VI co-writer Guy Busick and Lori Evans Taylor, based on a story by Jon Watts (Spider-Man: Homecoming). Producers include Watts, Dianne McGunigle, Craig Perry, and Sheila Hanahan Taylor.

The Final Destination franchise started in 2000 with the James Wong-directed film starring Devon Sawa, Ali Larter, Tony Todd, and Kerr Smith. All five movies in the series have a similar plotline. The film starts with one character having a premonition about a catastrophic incident, the first film's main character Alex (Sawa) forsees the plane he and his classmates have just boarded crashing.

Panicking, Alex persuades several of his friends to get off the plane before it takes off. No one else believes him, and many people die as the plane crashes, just like Alex saw in his vision. The rest of the movie sees the survivors getting picked off one by one by an unseen entity because they "cheated" Death. Each movie follows a similar format.

New Line Cinema is also distributing the horror films Companion and The Conjuring: Last Rites next year.

Final Destination: Bloodlines will be released in theaters on May 16, 2025. Stay tuned to 1428 Elm for more updates!
